There was a long line for the elevators at the top of the De Young tower so instead we took the stairs down what later turned out to be a route for emergency exit only. The stairs wound their way down between the building wall and an outer skin of perforated metal. When we opened the door to the outside at the very bottom an alarm sounded for about a minute. Woops! However, we were apparantly not the only people to make the same mistake: the alarm was going off intermittantly throughout our visit. [IMG_0938-deyoung]
