Made by Bob_2006
2101 Quilchena Avenue, Merritt, BC. Andrew Hoggan was an enterprising hoteller who built a number of hotels in Merritt including the Adelphi. With 34 rooms, a parlour and dining room, the hotel sold the best wines and liquor as well as cigarettes and cigars. Prohibition closed the hotel in 1918. A fire in the 1940s damaged the east wing. When it was rebuilt, the number of rooms was reduced to 20. In 1948, a 'ladies' beer parlour was added. The Adelphie remains an important landmark in Merritt's history.
