McCandless, Pennsylvania

McCandless is a town in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It is also considered a census-designated place by the U.S. Census Bureau. As of the 2000 census, the Town population was 29,022. The community was previously known as McCandless Township. On January 1, 1975, the township became a home rule charter municipality with the name "Town of McCandless." ^ It is one of only two municipalities in Pennsylvania called a "town", the other being Bloomsburg in Columbia County. Bloomsburg, was incorporated as a town in 1870, and is still recognized by state government publications as "the only incorporated town" in Pennsylvania. ^ ^ ^
