PCC cars appear to be indestructible and like MUNI in San Francisco and SEPTA in Philadelphia MBTA has calculated that rebuilding them (which with the remaining cars has now been done twice) is cost-effective compared to the purchase of new equipment. They are confined to the Ashmont - Mattapan shuttle service, isolated from the rest of the streetcar network. Note the offside door.

A 1930's Cyclopse trolley at Mattapan Station, Boston, MA. May 4, 2003. Mattapan is one of only two light rail stations in Boston I know of that has the doors opening on both sides. The other one is Park Street Station in Downtown Boston.
