UK - London - Marylebone: 34 Montagu Square
Made by wallyg
This London first floor and basement flat, owned by Ringo Starr of The Beatles during the mid-1960, is conveniently close to . Starr leased the flat in 1965, before his marriage to Maureen Cox. Before long he and Maureen moved to a new home, Sunny Heights, outside London, but Starr chose to keep the lease. Paul McCartney rented the flat and turned it into a mini-recording studio where he wrote several songs including Eleanor Rigby. Starr leased the flat to to Jimi Hendrix and his manager, Chas Chandler, but after four months evicted them after they painted all the rooms black. John Lennon's mother-in-law Lillian Powell stayed there, rather than at Kenwood, when she came to visit daughter Cynthia Powell. When Lennon got together with Yoko Ono in 1968, he moved out of Kenwood and the two stayed at Montagu Square, for the next several months as the White Album was being made. Their experimental Two Virgins album had been recorded at Kenwood, but its notorious nude cover photos were taken at Montagu Square. Lennon also gave an early interview to Rolling Stone, when a journalist visited the apartment. Ono was pregnant during their stay, and the two were also in the throes of heroin addiction. In the fall, the flat was raided by London's Drugs Squad, and police dogs discovered hashish on the premises. Both were arrested, and Lennon pled guilty to hashish possession, absolving Ono, who miscarried their unborn baby not long after. After the police raid, the landlord sought an injunction against Starr, forbidding anyone but Starr or his family to live there, and for no music or instruments to be played. Starr appealed, and a compromise was reached; only Starr or a family member would live in the flat. Nonetheless, Starr never used the place again, and sold his lease during 1969. London Zoo: Shot Through the Glass where the Silverback Gorilla's Chill. He's deep in thought as though he's seen me before! Nikon D3000 Tamron 70-300mm Di f/4-5.6 Manual Operation Handheld @ 300mm f/5.6 ISO 800 Shutter 1/60sec Software: PS CS5 and Noise Ninja. Thank you all in advance for your feedback. Much appreciated to me as an Amateur. Gorillas are the largest extant species of primates. They are ground-dwelling, predominantly herbivorous apes that inhabit the forests of central Africa. Gorillas are divided into two species and either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is highly similar to that of a human, from 95-99% depending on what is counted,[3] and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after the two chimpanzee species. Gorillas' natural habitats cover tropical or subtropical forests in Africa. Although their range covers a small percentage of Africa, gorillas cover a wide range of elevations. The mountain gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2,200–4,300 metres (7,200–14,100 ft). Lowland Gorillas live in dense forests and lowland swamps and marshes as low as sea level, with western lowland gorillas living in Central West African countries and eastern lowland gorillas living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo near its border with Rwanda.[4]

week three
Made by ɹǝllǝʞ ɐuoɹ
good times, they’re out there I spent 5 days of this week in London, on a field excursion. I had an amazing time and lots of fun, although there have been hard moments, too. But, I loved London and I so wanna go back there! this picture and its title have been inspired by an advertisement of budweiser, it was everywhere and I actually wanted to steal one to hang it up on my wall. :D I’ll post a picture of it in the comments. I took the picture in our hotel room (on my bed), we stayed near Baker Street. the light is horrible because the only time I got the chance to take pictures was in the middle of the night when I came back from a pub and my roommates have still been out, as I prefer taking pictures of myself when I’m alone. I actually drank alcohol, too, and I had a headache, so under these circumstances I’m quite satisfied with how it turned out. :) there are pictures of me and my friends and two others in the comments, too. p.s. I'm ill at the moment. :( [september 28 – october 4, 2009]

Love and Peace!
Made by The Round Peg
Lately I am pushing myself in going VERY neat to my subjects. I have discovered that practically none of them are aware of me, even if my camera is extremely noisy. Some of those who are aware of the camera are surprised, some others try to hide but the best are those who like it. This couple was in the last group: I saw them from distance and I raised my camera, still not completely sure of the shot. He was quite a character, then he saw me and he raised his hand. What hit me was that differently from all the others that had showed me the victory sign in the past, he did not smile, he kept his inquisitive look. When we crossed they did not look back and after a while I turned away, smiling. Lately I cannot reach the level I would love, it is like I am not completely able to capture the Moment. Is it a sort of writer block for photography? I have a lot of work on my job and in the last weeks one of my teeth bothered me A LOT, then when I get my camera and I get out I am not completely able to free my mind, thinking positive as I should.

Some people are Gay. Get Over It.
Made by The Round Peg
He was walking with the others, carrying the poster I have used to title this photo and the entire set: Some people are gay. Get over it. He was not in the first row, under the flash of every photographer. He was in the middle of the parade, one amongst many others, one carrying the sign of Pride. I have always appreciated his interpretations on the big screen. Sir Ian McKellen was there, telling the world that being gay has nothing to do with sickness, psychological problems or anything vaguely similar. He was there to show the world that homosexuality is something normal, something to be proud of, something that should never be addressed in a negative way! I have decided to name this set , following one of the billboards proudly carried by the people in he parade and sharing the idea that homophobia is bad.

Good News on the Phone
Made by The Round Peg
Good news are always welcome. No matter who you are, what you background is or what the news is. I was hit by the expression of this woman. I like to think she just received a great news and she was trying to behave well while on the phone. Or at least I hope she did! Yesterday Fabiana was at the gym, so I took some time after work and went hunting with the long lens once more. I went from Charing Cross to the South Bank, then to Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Circus and then towards Notting Hill and finally home. Shooting for some weeks with a different lens (the 28mm) helped me gaining confidence. Now with the long lens, when I see something interesting I simply put my camera on my eye, focus, compose and shot. As if it was a perfectly normal thing. It is, don't misunderstand me, but the psychological gap is always there.

The gender of a Vampire

Many colorful people walked the roads of London during the Pride. It has been a joy being there, watching them, trying to capture them in the same way my bare eyes did. I personally do not think that the reasons why all those people were there were laughable or simple matters. Someone asked me, just before the parade, why there is a gay pride, and not a straight pride. The reason is that, even if colorful and joyful, this is a rally to protest against all the injustices gay people must face. We should never forget that homophobia is a real problem. I am in full support of personal freedom. I do not mind who you Love. Be free and be yourself! I have decided to name this set , following one of the billboards proudly carried by the people in he parade and sharing the idea that homophobia is bad.

...Kid myself I'm having fun
Made by Another Partial Success
Start the nightlife over again Large and Dark. One for Guess Where London - I'm not sure how quickly this will go... but nevertheless I love the blue. The title is from Bedsitter by the 80's electro beat combo Soft Cell and is a song which I always think of when I'm in this area of London.... something about the loneliness of the endless apartments - timeless lyrics which are as relevant today as they were in the 80's. ... I think it's time to cook a meal To fill the emptiness I feel Spend my money going out I've nothing in I'm left without Clean my teeth and comb my hair And look for something new to wear And start the night life over again Kid myself I'm having fun .... Enjoy

The Age of Wisdom
Made by The Round Peg
There are photos I have some trouble commenting. Those photos are, like this one, portraying something deep, something I have seen and I wanted to fix onto the sensor more than in my simple memory. This man was walking down Oxford Street, one of the busiest street in London. His pace was slow, but confident. He used his cane to help himself, with the weight of the years on his shoulders, nevertheless he went on, step after step, with something I think was proud. Tiring, indeed, but proud. He did not wear some shabby clothes, but was well dressed. I have to admit that his hair hit me. They were candidly white, but quite hairy on the sides of his head. He reminded me a character from some anime back in my youth. This is how I saw, and portrayed him.

Walking Amongst the Ghosts
Made by The Round Peg
She was walking in the crowded street amongst many others, her face covered by her black veil. Her dark eyes were flashing, looking ahead. They did not seem to notice the figures around her, those highly lit noise around her, those ghosts. When I composed I had a moment to decide if I would have taken that shot or not. Taking a photo of her really seemed to me like removing that veil: I could not do it. Then I decided not to lose the shot without invading too much, and I shook the camera slightly, willingly. I was lucky that the time it took me to decide how to do it, the other figures went under the sun, becoming overexposed! I am glad I did it, I am glad the photo did not come perfect, I am glad she is more than a ghost in a ghost world.

Shake your Booty!
Made by The Round Peg
Listen to the music, smile, shake your booty and be free. Be free to choose, to love, to be Proud of what you are. Follow the rhythm, do not follow the standards, feel free to march with your head high, and to swim against the current loving what you love. The London Pride, or Gay Pride, is, first and foremost, a fantastic Party. I personally think that everyone should be free to choose his or her own sexuality, and should be free from judgments. First of the London Pride series, more to come in the next days!!!I have decided to name this set , following one of the billboards proudly carried by the people in he parade and sharing the idea that homophobia is bad.

London Surprise (Back to the '80s version)
Made by The Round Peg
Again a far from being perfect photo. Technically I hated myself for failing to take this one as it should have been, but her expression made this photo. I saw her (and her mate) when it was too late for a calculated framing. I just set my eyes in the viewfinder and shot. I was able to catch exactly the expression I saw, but the quality was not exacly what I had in mind. From the original soft tones I decided to go for a very high contrast Black and White. I do not know if I have been able to save it, not my call any longer. And about the title... don't she reminds you of some '80s actress?

Baker Streets
Made by edscoble
The first underground station in the world, and quite possibly, one of the great British modernisation design, it's arch curve beautifully with the ventilation shafts doubled as a channels for daylight. It's tiles is white in order to improved the illumination back then where you only have gaslight (it has been covered now, thought TfL try to make the lighting as accurate as possible like in the old day). I also add some information in the EXIF data (on the Additional Information part) so it'll read the right camera correctly, thank to Reveal.

London Red Routemaster
Made by Frizztext
compare flickrcomments.wordpress.com/2011/05/13/weekly-photo-chal... I liked the version of the AEC Routemaster with the open door: you could jump in like cowboys, entering a running horse... [frizztext] comment by marineavoile: I have seen one of those turned into a two-story mobile home, parked in the forest along the Atlantic Coast. It appealed to me. They do have a magical side to them, even for the younger generations now thanks to Harry Potter.

On a Tuesday, we have nowt to do, basically just linger about really, so we decided to just go down to Baker Street to the Metropolitan Bar for a spot of drink and food. I was truly amazed by the sheer amount of gears she was carrying, not only she carry her trademark Canon 350D, but her bloke's Canon 30, and that massive fuck-off lens that's heavier and bigger than her 350D, while I felt rather small with my compact and er.. well that it really, it was alarming because we're only going for a drink, yet she bring enough kit to walk Mount Everest.

Grey Heron
Made by Muzammil (Moz)
The Grey Heron is a large grey bird with very long legs and a long pointed beak. This elegant bird is often seen standing motionless on one leg at the water's edge. It has a thick black stripe of feathers above the eye, which grow out behind the head in a long black tuft. The young Grey Heron does not have this black tuft, and its body is a paler grey than the adult. The Grey Heron flies with very slow, graceful wing beats, while its long neck is folded into an S shape, tucking the head above the body. When flying, its wings curve inwards.

A continuation of my London underground series ;) This time art deco on the metropolitan line at Swiss cottage central London, I love these old art deco tube stations with their original fittings and fixtures still intact, i really like the brass up-lighters and the way out sign in particular. Its a rare sight to find them these days. many thanks for all your visits, comments and faves, much appreciated :-)

Baker street - New London edition (1)
Made by Miodrag Bogdanovic mitja
Baker Street station is the oldest station on the Underground network and therefore, considering the London Underground is the oldest Underground service running, the oldest Underground station in the world. It opened in 1863. Wiki: Baker street tube station If I could ask you something, as a new year resolution: Please, don't use overlarge, animated, ugly and unnecessary group icons in comments for my images. Thank You! :)

Green
Made by The Round Peg
I was just going away from Regent's Park, when I spotted this place. There was a small rise between my location and the walkway where people were coming and going. I realized it just because I needed to tie my shoes, and I saw that the only background I could see when someone was on the rise, was this amazing green sky of leaves. So I waited. The first person that passed over the rise after I had my camera in my hand was this girl, with her shiny sunglasses.

Liz & Andy's mini cake tower
Made by Jen's Cakery
This was delivered on Saturday, my laptop is just back from being fixed so can finally post! The couple are buddists and wanted lotus flowers on their cakes. The bride is American and so asked for Red Velvet, so the minis are a mix of Red Velvet and yummy lemon! Liz was wearing a stunning dress by Sassi Holford with a sparkelly belt which inspired the silver patterned cake. A lovely order for a lovely couple! Handmade stand to match the colour scheme.
