St. Michael's Castle (Russian: Михайловский замок, Mikhailovsky zamok), also called the Mikhailovsky Castle or the Engineer Castle (Russian: Инженерный замок, Inzhenerny zamok), is a former royal residence in the historic centre of Saint Petersburg, Russia. St. Michael's Castle was built as a residence for Emperor Paul I by architects Vincenzo Brenna and Vasili Bazhenov in 1797-1801. The castle looks different from each side, as the architects used the motifs of various architectural styles such as French Classicism, Italian Renaissance and Gothic.

The Field of Mars (Russian: Ма́рсово по́ле) is a large park and square in the center of Saint Petersburg with an area of almost 9 hectares. Named after the Roman god of war, the Field was for a long time the setting for military parades and drills for imperial guards regiments. Monuments to military leaders Pyotr Rumyantsev and Alexander Suvorov have been erected here. Its layout remains unchanged.
