Maribor Airport
Maribor Airport (Slovenian: Letalisce Maribor) (IATA: MBX, ICAO: LJMB) is the second biggest airport in Slovenia, serving the city of Maribor. It is located a few kilometres south of the city, near Slivnica. First time I saw Eurofighter Typhoon it in real life and I must say it's really an amazing piece of work. Couple of F-16s that impressed air-show spectators few minutes before (accompanied of course with Kenny Loggin's Danger Zone booming from the loudspeakers) suddenly paled by comparison. Two Typhoons came flying towards the runway at minimum speed - no faster than some of the propeller planes at the show - which looked quite incredible for fighter jets. And the noise at this speed was amazingly low as well. Very different from F-16s - not to mention MiG-29 I saw last year, where the noise literally shook the ground. Initial quietness and low speed meant even bigger shock for the spectators the moment pilots hit the throttles to the max and pulled their sticks. Planes suddenly exploded upwards with a deafening boom, leaving us slack-jawed behind. BTW Typhoon is one of the very few planes able to supercruise (cruise at supersonic speeds without the use of afterburner). Currently the only other fighter capable of supercruising is F-22 Raptor. --- Better
