If this were true... he he we'll probably have to re-build all our houses. This is no Austrian baroque church or mountains. The original photo of church church of Siggiewi (Malta, were we have no mountains) was flat - not really interesting. So, using GIMP, I selected the sky with select by colour and removed it. I then created a mask (white=transparent) and erased all the excess greys, halos, objects etc... I searched for a more striking background and found this photo which I took near Bourg St-Maurice. I flipped it horizontally so that the sun is on the right as in the foreground image. Edited the colours of the mountain scenery so that it scales more with the foreground. I blurred most of the edges to remove as much as possible from the halo effect. Photos taken with a Pentax SVi. My first attempt.

Siggiewi 2009, Malta - The Limestone Heritage Centre The Limestone Heritage is the latest, most exciting and original attraction designed to give a thorough insight into the past and present treasures of these islands. Situated just outside the vernacular village of Siggiewi, it recounts 5000 years of ingenuity that gave the world the earliest freestanding structures in stone, pre-dating the famous pyramids of Giza. This exhibition is located just a few kilometers away from the two megalithic complexes of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra, dating to Neolithic times, nowadays acknowledged as World Heritage Sites.

When we came back from the Limestone Heritage museum we took this old bus. The busdriver was so awesome! He complained about the heat and told us we were lucky to be in this old bus with a lot of windows :) I went to the front of the bus to take this portrait and said *SMILE* :) I'm so proud of this portrait! :) • Lomo LC-A • Fujifilm Superia 200 • No post-processing or editing!

The week we were in Malta was sooooooo hot! More than 30°C every day! Luckely we found this great refreshment stop on our way to the Limestone Heritage in Siggiewi. It was a fan that sprinkled some water over passengers, so refreshing! :D • Lomo LC-A • Fujifilm Superia 200 • No post-processing or editing!

This shot was taken during an open day to mark the restoration works being carried out on the site of old parish church of Siggiewi. This limestone tombstone was recovered from the site. Exposure is definitely tricky, I used gimp to slightly enhance more the letters of the Latin inscription (dated MDCLX - 1660).

Festas are not just fireworks, music, bands, marches, processions, ornaments, lights, flags, colours, joyous meeting place... nowadays it is also about junk food and kiosks. Yes, that hot dog with beans is a must! I like the smiling expressions and humane feelings of this shot in low light conditions.

One of Malta's open-top buses approaches the Malta Falconry Centre at Siggewi with the town's imposing church behind. This bus, a Leyland Titan, once served with London Transport - with a roof of course! Siggiewi, Malta 27th April 2010 20100427 IMG_4234

Skeleton Tree

A 'skeleton' of an only citrus tree. Worked with Gimp, split RGB channels into 3 layers, hid away the green channel and played with the remaining two channels to achieve a concept I had figured out and a good balance with detail.

San Niklaw

Reputedly built on the site where the first Christian chapel of the island was constructed. It is dedicated to St. Nicholas and the cult towards this Saint was probably brought to the island by settlers from the east.

The festa is next to its close. The procession is over and the statue is back in church. Now the last prayers and adoration. The sacro is all over and then its all profano.

Exhibit from the restored old parish church in Siggiewi. Two sections of (probably) the same column. Similar columns still adorn the old alter of the old parish church.

Celebrating 50th anniversary, the local choir Sta Cecilia held a choir festival and invited other choirs from Malta and one from Austria. Good job. Great experience!

The procession is close to its end. I think this photo is summary of what festas are all about: people, movement, sacro et profano, lights, colour, fireworks...

My trusty LC-A and my ageing messenger bag. While waiting for the in Siggiewi, Malta. Little did we know a crazy *bumpety bump* bus ride was about to start!

We were walking the deserted streets of Siġġiewi when Joseph said hello, shook our hands and we proceeded to learn about each other...a delightful chap.

This shot was taken from the outskirts of Siggiewi. I admit it is not as sharp as I prefer (long exposure) but the evening colours and lighting are fine.

Hmmm, I wonder what's behind the doors, and if it's in use? :P Weird how the top half is still clean and nicely painted. Garage overkill in Siggiewi.

This is was originally a trial shot of sunset over Rabat (to check the digital zoom). I just created a vertical swap and ended with the above result.
