wooden church
Made by ika6_
The Wooden articulated evangelical church in Svaty Kriz belongs to one of the largest wooden buildings in Central Europe. History of the church revealed to us the history of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the region of Liptov/Slovakia. At the beginning of the 16th century, the reformist ideas will spread very quickly and Protestantism reached its peak in 1610. In the second half of the 17th century in the Austria-Hungarian Empire has reinforced the absolutist regime and this has led to repression of evangelical Protestantism. During this cruel oppression, in 1678, began Kuruc uprising against the emperor. Rebel successes, as well as fear of the Turks forced the King Leopold I. to make concessions. In 1681 parliament convened in Sopron, which enacted 82 Articles. According to the article no. 26 has been granted the construction of the Protestant churches in Hungary. Churches had to stand on the outskirts of the village. According to this article, the churches were to be located on the outskirts of town. For their construction was to be used only wood and no other material. The churches could not have towers, bells and the revenue could not be turned towards the city. The Svaty Kriz church was originally built in 1693 in the village of Paludza. The restructuring to its current appearance form in 1774 by master carpenter care of Joseph Lang. Although he did not know how to read or write the construction was completed in the same year. In connection with the construction of Water Works in the years 1974 to 1982 was dismantled and rebuilt in its original form in the village of Svaty Kriz. Apart from the church, the independent wooden tower that served as bell tower is a harmonious complex. The tower was built in 1781 after the publication of the Edict of tolerance by the Emperor Joseph II. It is 19 meters high. Current bells are from the years 1921 to 1922 and is called Faith, Hope and Charity.

After The Rain ~ Horehronie, Slovakia
Made by Martin Sojka
View Large On Black Long time, no post... I've spent most of my photography time researching and setting up digital darkroom at home lately. Storing and processing photos on the laptop was becoming a nightmare as you can imagine. New Dell with 64bit Win 7 is running smooth so far and I paired it with great Eizo screen. So we're slowly moving our growing collection of pictures to this new home computer and there are hundreds of pictures still waiting to be processed from the last few months. We're having rainy May here in Slovakia. And by rainy I mean that it was raining every single day. It's getting at least slightly better as the rains are now scattered during the days. So one can go outside right after the rain and admire vivid cultivated fields in a strong contrast with the blue sky and white puffy clouds. Lush green is in harmony with yellow blooming rape everywhere you look. Scenery on this photo is quite close to my home - just a few minutes drive - and it was captured in all it's beauty on Saturday afternoon just after the rain. I will be posting more frequently again because processing is fun again ;) there are photos from Slovakia as well as from Barcelona and Venice waiting to be published. Storm Clouds Break Over The Golden Rape Field ~ Horehronie, Slovakia
Made by Martin Sojka
View Large On Black This evening didn't seem promising at all but after some hesitation I decided to go out when heavy rain stopped. I headed to one of my favorite locations close to my home where the rape was in full bloom. I was pleasantly surprised when sun decided to break through the storm clouds just in time and I had a chance to witness one of the most amazing sunsets ever. I tried shooting straight into the sun and this begged for some heavy filtration - 3-stop hard edge grad combined with 2-stop soft edge one. A few minutes later the show was over... Nature's Blanket ~ Low Tatras, Slovakia
Made by Martin Sojka
Olympus E-30, Zuiko 12-60, Heliopan Polarizer We spent a beautiful summer day in Low Tatras on Saturday. Left home in the morning and hiked from Srdiečko to Chopok, Ďumbier and back to Srdiečko where we left our car. Ďumbier (2,043 m) and Chopok (2,024 m) are two highest peaks of Low Tatras and are connected by the long distance E8 European walking route leading 4,700 km (2,920 miles) across Europe, from Kerry in Ireland to Istanbul in Turkey. We had a nice sunny weather at the beginning so I was testing a new Heliopan polarizer.. yup it's a top quality ;) Anyways it got a bit cloudy later and all those beautiful panoramic views were quite hazy. So I tried to focus on nice details instead. This shot shows area specific layers of big rocks, dwarf pines and green grass in the summer. Thanks for looking! Your feedback is always appreciated ;)

Špania Dolina, sugar wonderland
Made by ELP - Erik Lehmden
Špania Dolina is a historic village in central Slovakia, situated 728 m above sea level and is surrounded by mountains. The first written reference to the village appeared in 1254, but it is an ancient mining village, rich with history, going back in time to 2000 - 1700 B.C. The copper mines were closed down in 1888. A covered stairway leads to a fortified church, built in the gothic and renaissance styles. Wooden miners' houses, now reconstructed, were originally built in the 17th and 18th centuries. The so-called Knocker from the 16th century served as a special bell tower for calling the miners to work in the morning. Ancient shafts and other technical monuments are scattered in the nearby forests. This photo was taken from the top of the huge mining rubble dump above the village.

Night & Day Handshake ~ High Tatras, Slovakia
Made by Martin Sojka
Olympus E-30, Zuiko 12-60 Another one from the great Friday's morning... weather forecast was finally promising so we made a decision with a friend of mine to get up early and drive to a location we wanted to visit few weeks ago. Fortunately I had no problem with 3:15am alarm this time and we were on the place just 15 minutes before dawn. Amazing morning light was slowly uncovering hidden High Tatras peaks with the first snow... This one is a bit experimental and minimalistic. It's a 30sec long exposure capturing the passing moment of night & day handshake - daylight was replacing a dark side of night slowly but surely. Thanks for looking! Your feedback is always appreciated ;)

Snowflake
Made by Vlastula
So nice snowflake landed on my pants so I couldn't help myself from taking picture of it! :-) Ice crystals formed in the appropriate conditions can often be thin and flat. These planar crystals may be simple hexagons, or if the supersaturation is high enough, develop branches and dendritic (fern-like) features and have six approximately identical arms, as per the iconic 'snowflake' popularised by Wilson Bentley. The 6-fold symmetry arises from the hexagonal crystal structure of ordinary ice, the branch formation is produced by unstable growth, with deposition occurring preferentially near the tips of branches. Vlkolínec, wooden cottages
Made by ELP - Erik Lehmden
Vlkolínec is a small settlement under the Sid mountain range, central Slovakia. First written mention of the village came from 1376 and since 1993 Vlkolínec has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This status was granted because the village is an untouched and complex example of folk countryside architecture of the region of the Northern Carpathians. It is the region’s most complete group of these kinds of traditional wooden cottages, often found in mountainous areas.

Slovakia, Nízke Tatry Mts.
Made by Peter Fenďa
magic garden - Važecká jaskyňa, Húskova sieň / Važec cave is only 530 m long. Original river modelled passages are in several places reshaped by collapses, mainly along the interbed limestone surfaces. Underground spaces are decorated mostly by stalactites, stalagmites and flowstone pools. A large part of the cave is filled with fine-grained sediments from floods of the Biely Váh River and perhaps also from waters of the ponor water flow in half-blind valley in Priepadlá.

Olympus E-30, Zuiko 12-60, Hitech GND We decided to wake up early today and drive to a close field before sunrise today. It was a bit dissapointing because sun didn't brake through the clouds. However there was a nice fog in the background as you can see on this shot. I tried the square crop, hope you like it. Thanks for looking! Your feedback is always appreciated ;)
