Tribute to Steve Irwin (low isles)
Made by imageo
As a geologist, I am very familiar with the australian landscape, its wonderful flora & fauna (including all the bitty & poisonous things that require respect) I can not in all honestly praise Steve Irwin, he was mostly totally reckless and irresponsible and choose to take senseless risks, most of his actions are appauling examples of how NOT to behave with wild animals, that should not be followed. Yet he did inspire many to stop and consider the environment. However he was just an entertainer, and a self promotional zoo owner. Streth I doubt he should be called an true environmentalist, he was more a wildlife sensationalist! It is however tragically sad that he was killed by a such docile relative of the shark, a sting ray. Deep condolences to his wife & kids, crikey steve died way too young. my low isle panorama (revistited with autostich)

The Low Isles
Made by kishwild
This is a small island off northern Queensland, Australia called the Low Isles (there is another one not in this view). It is off the coast from Port Douglas. The water here was not quite as clear as further out on the Great Barrier Reef, but still saw some sea turtles, a shark, and of course countless fish. The island itself has a lighthouse and a bunch of little thatched umbrellas. It is a nice destination for a daytrip, although if you really want to see the best of the Great Barrier Reef you need to go further out than this island.

Found Nemo
Made by LI Refugee
Due to the popularity of Finding Nemo, one of the first things a snorkeling guide will do is lead the group to a clown fish and announce they they had found Nemo. Because of the tide, once again you only had to get your feet wet to get a good look at a clown fish, who even at low tide refuses to leave its favorite spot

Soft Coral
Made by LI Refugee
We arrived at the Low Isles while the tide was going out, and after a time, it was clear that you didn't have to actually enter the water to get a good look at the soft coral laying just offshore

Rubbery Mountains
Made by LI Refugee
Without the water to support the bodies of the coral, they drooped in a quite grotesque manner in all directions
