Founded in 1881 by ultra-conservative Harrison Gray Otis, the Los Angeles Times is the third largest daily newspaper in the country. It has won 19 Pulitzer Prizes. Editorials and articles in the Times have been instrumental in the success of the Urban Park Movement that has created great parks at the Cornfield, Taylor Yard, Baldwin Hills, and Ascot Hills, and is greening the Los Angeles River. Historically, the Times was called the “least fair and reliable” paper in the country, and had a reputation as a union busting shop. The Times has owned four buildings since its inception, and now locates its headquarters at the corner of 1st and Spring Streets.
