Most of Oahu has turned into one large subdivision, with the mountainous E and NW the exception. On the Hawaii Kai is the Makapuu Point and Lighthouse and beach. There's a MacDonalds beyond the pier on the left. If you go over the top of the cliff on the left and down the other side, you arrive in a subdivision of Honolulu on the hillside.

Pete (reaper) inflating his tandem wing with Cheree at manix launch, Makapuu, Oahu. I took this photo to show all the paragliders in Alaska how much space are launches have. His wing is setup about five feet downhill of the powerlines and highway. Bob and new pilot Bill (hillbilly) are standing behind the wing.

Manix launch is to the left behind the rocks, crazies is just below the 4th powerpole (guy in red shirt) from the left. Paragliders are not supposed to land at the beach since it is a state park. The normal LZ is barely visible on th little strip on land on the right edge of the photo.

The usual stuff. Waves, cliffs, beautiful scenery... This is the Makapu'u Beach Park The tall island in front is the Manana Island State Seabird Sanctuary, and the smaller island on the right is the Kaohikaipu Island State Seabird Sanctuary.

I took two photos, one polarizing the sky and another polarizing the water. I then blended the two exposures in Photoshop. After that, I processed the second RAW file again to expose for the detail in the foreground rocks.


Rabbit Island

There were rabbits on the island thanks to a bored rancher. Just another in a long series of foreign invasive species on Hawaii. But I think they have it under control now and the island is now a bird sanctuary.

Whales often migrate near these rocks in March. It is also known as Rabbit Island because John Cummins introduced them in the 1880s. They were later eradicated as they interfered with the bird population.
