Broadwater County. A BNSF locomotive passes by the former Milwaukee Road railroad bridge across the Missouri River at the Lombard townsite. A portion of the bridge is missing; presumably it was removed to prevent travel across the bridge after the Milwaukee shut down their operation in 1980. No buildings remain at Lombard although a couple of foundations can be seen. The post office at Lombard closed in 1957, it first opened in 1896.

This is the location of the former town of Lombard. At one time this narrow spot was full of buildings and with two railroads. The Northern Pacific passed under the Milwaukee at this point while the Milwaukee crossed the Missouri River. Montana Rail Link still runs trains through here as well as the BNSF on trackage rights.

This is a plate affixed to the Milwaukee Road bridge that crossed the Missouri River and the former Northern Pacific main line (now Montana Rail Link). The date of manufacture was 1907. Apparently, the Wisconsin Bridge and Iron Company from Milwaukee was sold in the 1970s. See for another look from this bridge.

An eastbound BNSF empty military trains rolls under the former Milwaukee Road right of way at Lombard, Montana, on the Montana Rail Link. The sun was pretty much down, but it's always worth keeping the camera out—especially with a Belle on the point.

A BNSF eastbound freight is about to roll beside what was the Milwaukee Road bridge which crossed the Montana Rail Link main and the Missouri River in Lombard, Montana. I’m not sure I like this perspective or not, bit it’s different.

I offer this shot as proof that a four door sedan(now known as The Goat) made it down the Jeep trail into Lombard. Notice I didn't call it a road.
