Together with King John's Castle on King's Island in Limerick one of the very famous inherities of Ireland. ...King's Island was the first Viking stronghold, but the arrival of the Anglo-Normans to the area in 1172 changed everything. Limerick on one side, Clare on the other everyday the peasant folk of Clare line up on the far side of this bridge and wait to try their luck and wangle their individual ways past the wily Fear-na-Rothair of Limerick, and so, make their way into civilisation. Many never make it and fall at his wheels or jump to their doom in the river.

Taken during a recent night visit to the Living Bridge, on the University of Limerick Campus. Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects, London. This stunning piece of architecture is quite spectacular at night, when it ls lit. At each end, the bridge is illuminated by lights that shift through a cycle of colours, from green, to blue, yellow, purple and red.
