Limassol / Lemesós (Cyprus) – Old Town Street
Made by Danielzolli
(EN) The picture shows a street in the not extremely exciting old town of Lemesós, which I post more fort he completeness since I didn’t find so many good foto sujets there. (D) Das Bild zeigt eine Strasse in der nicht sehr aufregenden Altstadt von Limassol – ich zeige es mehr der Vollständigkeit halber, da ich in dieser Stadt kaum was Interessantes zum Fotografieren fand. (EN) From Nicosia, I made an overnight trip to Lemesós (Limassol). I got there quite quickly by bus, even if public transport is practically inexistent in South Cyprus: Between the bigger cities, there are only 4-6 connections on weekdays (none at Sundays). I got the impression that these are used exclusively by foreigners. The city center of Lemesós is not extremely interesting, there’s probably much more life in the holiday resorts around it. Except for some historical buildings in the quiet old town, there’s not much to see. There seem to be a lot of Russians in the city since many things are signposted in Russian.

Moon Rise...
Made by Jonathan Herbert
I took this stunning moon rise shot from the balcony of our hotel room whilst we were on holiday. The shot was helped as we were on the top floor of the hotel and i could get a good angle for the shot. I had to use a very long shutter speed to get this shot as it as very dark. I think that the shutter speed was something like 120 seconds. To get the moon to look not over exposed i took a shot of it with a very Fast shutter speed and then fixed it in the post processing. Camera Details Camera Nikon D90 Exposure 114 Aperture f/38.0 Focal Length 112 mm ISO Speed 100 Post-Processing Steps I used Photoshop to bring in the two images the long exposure and the single exposure of the moon. Then I ran the long exposure through topaz adjust to correct the exposure and the brightness. I also used topaz denoise to get rid of the noise in the image. Once the background image was cleaned up I put the good moon shot on top of the moon that was blurred and over exposed from the long exposure and cleaned up the image. Once all this was done i used groups and adjustment layers to get the picture looking like it does. Then I exported it to a jpeg. This picture was Explored and was at position #497 on May 10, 2011. The first time one of my pictures was featured in Explore.

greetings from wonderland
Made by bostankorkulugu
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, better known under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It tells the story of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit-hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar and anthropomorphic creatures. The tale is filled with allusions to Dodgson's friends (and enemies), and to the lessons that schoolchildren were expected to memorize. The tale plays with logic in ways that have made the story of lasting popularity with adults as well as children. It is considered to be one of the most characteristic examples of the genre of literary nonsense, and its narrative course and structure has been enormously influential, mainly in the fantasy genre. The book is commonly referred to by the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland, an alternative title popularized by the numerous stage, film and television adaptations of the story produced over the years. Some printings of this title contain both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There... ...taken at the sea front promenade, a.k.a. the sculpture park in the city center... Thirsty
Made by Lemessoler
The picture shows the Kouris Dam in Cyprus between Limassol and Trimiklini. Its the biggest dam in Cyprus with a max capacity of 115 Mio qbm. It has been built in 1988 and overflow once in 2004 (see also my Alassa Church pictures). Since there have been a number of dry Winters, the dam is now practically empty (as per 12/10/2007: 6.0% of its max capacity) again and gives a drastic example of the current watersituatiuon in Cyprus. The island and its inhabitants depend nearly exclusively on rainwater and melted snow from the mountains, which is collected in 108 dams during the rainy winter season. At the moment (12/10/2007) the storage of all dams in Cyprus is approx. 10%. The water supply has become once again quite critical and the island is in deperate need of a rainy winter with snow in the mountains. The figures have been taken from the Webpage of the Water Development Department of the Cyprus government.

face the light
Made by bostankorkulugu
On top of Prodromos village, nearly at 1700m height, an impressive ghost hotel is overlooking the island... It is no other than Berengaria Hotel, the one the kings loved and country leaders enjoyed! Its name is reminiscent of royalty as Beregaria was the name of the queen of Navarre, wife of Richard Lionheart who got married in Cyprus. At the beginning of the 20th century (1931) Pharouk, the king of Egypt, and Ezer Vaisman, the president of Israel resided at Berengaria. From visitors reviews “Cypriot hospitality” and “natural beauty” of its surroundings are praised. The hotel is now deserted and left to the mercy of God; a photographers' pleasure... ...taken at the Berengaria Hotel... Prodromos, Cyprus...

BERENGARIA 1.0
Made by liontas-Andreas Droussiotis
Front view of the famous Cyprus hotel , Berengaria ( 1931-1984) at Prodromos on Troodos Mountains . The photo was taken around 1995.Nowadays the hotel stands only a step from collapsing since the three subsequent owners, all of them shipowners in their regular life , have not been able to restore the hotel to its previous splendor. The name of the Hotel honors Queen Berengaria( 1165-1230) of England ( ex Berengaria of Navarre) wife of Richard I the Lionheart .As it is well known fact ,Richard and Berengaria married in Limassol in 1191 during the third Crusade. 365 Days, #54
Made by ★Ragnar
Explore #84 - March 30th, 2010 It was some amazing weather here today. As you can see, I wasn't the only one out enjoying it. I went to the beach for a while, but didn't stay for too long, way too windy and I'm just getting better from my cold. Was watching some wind surfers doing their thing. Damn, now I so want myself a decent zoom lens to capture action from afar. 50mm f1.8 is a darn amazing lens but in most cases you have to be near to what you shoot. Not always, but in most cases. Large on black

Pissouri Village | HDR
Made by Era.
So yesterday i went to my favourite village of Cyprus, Pissouri! It was so so awesome, especially the night. In this photo you can see the beach of the village. Pissouri Village is one of the most attractive and friendly villages in south-west Cyprus. To the south and east there are panoramic views of the coast, across vineyards, olive and carob trees and to the north one can see the majestic Troodos Mountains.. For more details please click HERE. Please feel free to leave a comment.

Laneia, Troodos Mountains, Cyprus
Made by ynysforgan_jack
Lania (officially spelled Laneia) is a village in the Troodos mountains just on the main Limassol to Troodos road. Lania is one of the area's main wine producing villages. According to legend, Lania got its name from Lana, daughter of the Greek god of wine and pleasure, Dionysos. This shows the tradition of wine making in the village. Pissouri Bay, Cyprus
Made by kevin dooley
Pissouri Bay, Cyprus, with Diane+ media format toycam. I got my film back from the trip--a harsh reminder that film is expensive--and I have to say that the Diana+, especially with black and white film, produced the best shots. The Fisheye produced some gems but looked to be starving for more light. With the Pinhole, I think I overcompensated and overexposed a bit. With the Diana+, the color shots came out nice and dreamy, and the B&Ws were kind of haunting.

Leda and the Swan Mosaic at Kouklia, Cyprus
Made by Ken and Nyetta
Kouklia was the home to a cult of Aphrodite from at least 3,800 BC and was mentioned in many ancient texts, including Homer's Iliad. The temple complex is now largely in ruins but the many art treasures found there are now in museums in New York, Paris, London and Nicosia. This is actually a copy of a 3rd century AD mosaic of Leda and the Swan at Kouklia. The original is in the museum but this copy was placed in the exact spot where the original was found.

Eastern Bath White
Made by Chris@184
As we walked the Kalidonian Trail in Cyprus, we came upon a crowd of butterflies on damp ground taking in fluids and maybe salts. This one was a new species tick for all of us. Armed only with a 400mm lens on the D60, this was the outcome. Usual excuse, sorry! Best not viewed large! Bottle top for size comparison, supplied by earlier trekkers. Thanks to them ;-p The map location is very approximate, insufficient data there to place within 5 miles

Eurasian Jay (Cyprus race)
Made by Chris@184
Atalante Trail, Troodos, Cyprus. Canon D60 with Sigma 400mm f5.6 lens, hand-held. Cropped and sharpened a little, otherwise straight from the box. If I could take a decent shot, it would have to be a common bird! This one came down to me as I rested on a fallen log. I think it is a different race to the British ones of the same species. Garrulus glandarius glaszneri Thanks for confirmation to shearwater2002

Birthplace of Aphrodite at Petra tou Romio, Cyprus
Made by Ken and Nyetta
According to ancient Greek legends, this is the spot where Aphrodite was born. Rather than being born as a baby, Greek myths say that Aphrodite arose from the sea fully formed. Eratosthenes wrote that she was met at the shore by gold-dressed goddesses who led her to Kouklia (Palaepafos) where her temple was to be located. Today, the beach is very popular with young couples who hope to benefit from the influence of Aphrodite.

Le quattro stagioni...
Made by Jonathan Herbert
Blog I Whilst walking back to our hotel in Cyprus me and my girlfriend stopped by the four seasons hotel. The design of the entrance to the lobby is very 80s to me it also makes me think of something from a science fiction movie. This picture is available to BUY on my Blog if you are interested

Yellow & Purple

On the beach in Cyprus doing some illicit coastal dog walking, despite the lack of tourists at this time of year it remains illegal to bring a dog onto the beach all year round. Just another reason I'll be glad to move to Scotland in the spring... Medieval Bridge, Foini 1
Made by enjoy cyprus
I cannot find any record of a name for this very well hidden bridge. It is found near to a rough track deep in the forest between Foini village and the Elaia Bridge in the Troodos Mountains, Cyprus. It's one of the smaller of the Medieval bridges and a very pretty little structure. I first saw this bridge while mountain biking in the area about 6 months ago and today got the chance to visit again to photograph it.

Green Cyprus 10/52
Made by andym8y
Landscapes are always easy to take but difficult to find the good locations. I went off the beaten track and greeted fields full of grass and yellow flowers, just like the rape seed in the UK. It's not often I am spoiled for choice so I went for a 5.6 with ND8 to get the added blur in the foreground. Week 10 of 52 in my photo a week project. Suggested theme was books. No books, but paper comes from trees ;)
