Venetian Lighthouse of Chania on the Greek island of Crete
Made by Peace Correspondent
The Venetians originally built the harbor lighthouse in 1570 and the Egyptians reconstructed it in 1830. The ancient lighthouse, reflected in the morning sun, brings to mind these words by Longfellow: Sail on! it says: sail on, ye stately ships! And with your floating bridge the ocean span; Be mine to guard this light from all eclipse. Be yours to bring man neared unto man.!

The lighthouse in the Chania harbor is a reconstruction (itself old) of the original one built in the 13th and 14th centuries. Not quite like the original, it is reminiscent of a minaret. For more info, click here.

Took a walk out on the old Venetian breakwater/wall to a lighthouse standing on its end. Here is Charlotte jailed near the lighthouse.
