It was the symbol of the controversial 2004 Universal Forum of Cultures and the serious flaws that arose during its construction were widely covered in both the Spanish national and foreign press [1]. The building has become a political bone of contention, with the opposition parties in both Barcelona Council and the Parliament of Catalonia demanding to know why it cost so much (of the order of US $144 m). Hot off the press, this is one of my favourite images from my photographic trip to Barcelona last weekend. It's taken looking up one of the lightwells to Herzog & de Meuron's extraordinary Forum building. Completed in 2004, sadly the building seemed rather disused and neglected. It's going to take me a while to edit and post process the 1200 photos so it might be a while before I post some more from the trip but I thought I'd post this as a bit of a teaser. - Nomès arribar al Forum ens vam trobar amb aquesta escena, el sol començava a sortir i alguns ocells que l´estaven esperant a sobre dels pals. Ni cal dir que van se objectiu de tots nosaltres durant una bona estona. Sortida amb els caçadors d´imatges al Forum de Barcelona Bon vespre :-) - Nada más llegar al Forum, nos encontramos con esta escena. El sol empezaba a salir y unos pájaros que lo estaban esperando sobre los palos. No hace falta decir que fueron objetivo de nuestras cámaras durante un buen rato. Las carreteras que unen las ciudades son como grandes vasos sanguíneos que unen órganos, y por ellas fluyen vehículos que son como los glóbulos que constituyen la sangre. Me fascinan los efectos visuales que pueden llegar a generarse con espejos, y tras contemplar verdaderas obras de arte por aquí, hoy he efectuado mi primera prueba!! Voilà! The visual effects that can be created with a mirror really stunts me, and after seeing some really wonderful jobs do it like this, today I tried my first one! That's it!!

The skylights that cut facetted holes in the Herzog & de Meuron Forum building in Barcelona are the most interesting feature of the building in my opinion. They start square at the roof level and then randomly open out in an almost flower-like way using a variety of reflective materials to create some great reflections.

The Forum by Herzog and de Meuron is one of the most extraordinary buildings I've seen. I'm not entirely convinced I like the exterior and unfortunately it wasn't open on the day of my visit so I can't comment on the interior. It sure made for interesting Architectural shots though, like this one of the cantilevered corner.
