99.9% sure i will delete this. Ok, so thanks to all of your amazing amazing kind comments, this will stay. Even though its so different from my style, is that a good thing? Yay for the most imaginative title, ever! So, yeah- this is BEYOND terrible. But i just wanted to say that i am actually still here(i think). The girl wearing the shorts is my sister, and next to her is her friend. They went to Athens for some law conference thing... So, yes,Its official, I am literally stuck on this island all alone. Better uploads in the future i promise! Sorry! Tripod is broken- again! Argh! maybe lightbox will make this suck a bit less? Maybe....? Nope- still terrible -.- I miss spontaneous Photoshoots with my friends so so much. Summer end already! I miss taking photos which actually mean something- to me at least. Processing inspired by and Amanda, who is also awesome!

Larnaca, 1999

Larnaca, 1999

One from my archives. Taken in 1999 just outside the Larnaca Municipal Market. I lived in Cyprus for two fantastic years, from 1997. I would be really interested if anyone would be able to give some information on the significance of the Graffiti. I know that it is tied in with the Enosis movement and links with Greece, but I am coming up short on any web searches. Unfortunately I have lost the original large version of this scan. I still have the print, but no scanner, so for now this will have to do. See where this picture was taken.

Islam may seem exotic or even extreme in the modern world. Perhaps this is because religion does not dominate everyday life in the West today, whereas Muslims have religion always uppermost in their minds, and make no division between secular and sacred. They believe that the Divine Law, the Shari'a, should be taken very seriously, which is why issues related to religion are still so important... ...taken in the mosque of Umm Haram... Larnaca, Cyprus...

Limestone

Limestone

I seem to constantly carry out a debate with myself these days, about where minimalism ends and nothingness starts :-) (Also, I'm getting constantly reminded about my lack of terminology to describe the objects in my photos. Anyone with geological knowledge who would happen to know if this is actually limestone, or perhaps sandstone, or something completely different...?) ------------------------------ Please no icons/banners/images in the comments.

White coats series; butcher Cyprus

White coats series; butcher Cyprus

A butcher on the market in Cyprus. He was standing in exactly this position when I noticed the nice white areas. He agreed with the picture, and remained in the same position. Surprisingly he hardly moved after the shot as well. He was a very calm and proud man and apparently just liked to stand in this position, waiting for customers. cameranizer.wordpress.com/

It's been a year...

...since the flamingoes came to visit us. Flamingoes migrate to Cyprus (in Larnaca and Limasol saltlakes) in search of a warmer climate to spend their winter. So we are fortunate enough to welcome them again this year on our island (there are seasons were there is nil rainfall in Cyprus, resulting in a dry saltlake hence no food - something which drives them away).

Sunrise Celebration

With just over a year on flicker and just about 20000 views, this is my 600th upload with one of my most favored subjects, sunrise over the bay of Larnaca, Cyprus. Over this last year I have had many happy moments and a fiew disapointments but most importantly I experienced the joy of sharing my photography with new friends from all over the world.... Thank you for being with me.

Armageddon Sunset

Armageddon Sunset
Made by Vakis Varn.
This is dedicated to my friend ajax8055 for inspiring the title. This afternoon we had the most amazing sunset I have ever seen in Larnaka, Cyprus. Even greenish-yellowish tints to it, besides the usual sunset colors! Lovely to look at but makes one wonder what is going on in the global atmosphere, given similar phenomena reported by Flickr friends all over the world.

Mercury sunset

One of the best sunsets I've witnessed. The overhanging fluffy clouds taking the color of the setting sun and the water reflecting the sky like some sort of liquid metal... A series of 5 vertical shots at 18mm stitched together. Each vertical photo made of two exposures, one for the sky and another for the foreground, blended manually in Photoshop after stitching.

This is a minimal B&W landscape long exposure photo, tourist style :-) I had originally meant to rent a car today, but chickened out when I realised I'd have to drive on the left hand side of the road... So, settled for the scenes that could be reached by foot from the hotel :-) -------------------------- Please no icons/banners/images in the comments.

Weather they like it or not, all winters come to an end.... This photograph was taken ten days ago, in the middle of winter, yet the coming of spring seems to be just around the corner! Dedicated to my two sons who are on the final stages of their projects, those who have exams and to all those who have difficult moments to deal with. ;-)) _VAR0224

People of different nationalities playing football under the Greek Orthodox church of Ayios Georgios Kontos in Larnaca, Cyprus. The title comes from this film, that talks about a boy's dream of becoming a photographer. World Cup 2010 starts today!

I wanted to make more use of those rocks for the foreground, but I had been up to the ankle into mud already, so I decided to use the reflections instead... 20 bracketed sets of photos with the S90, 5sec apart, stacked to create the equivalent of a roughly 100sec single shot exposure.

Curious Cypriot Cat

Curious Cypriot Cat

I met this CCC (Curious Cypriot Cat) just outside Hala Sultan Tekke (a prominent mosque in Larnaca). It's funny how there's always who will come and try to lick the lens, while others keep a safe distance.

Larnaca saltlake just before raining season - half dry, half wet. Those circles were like a quicksand. Put your foot there and you would start sinking.. Now with the rain, these circles are covered with water and the saltlake has turned into a .
