Clyde crane
Made by byronv2
The Finnieston Crane in Glasgow near the SECC by the River Clyde. This is one of the final great cranes used during the height of the Industrial Revolution, so powerful it would lift tanks and steam locomotives into ships to head all over the world. At the end of the City of Culture Year in the 90s artist George Wylie created a life sized sculpture of a steam train out of straw an hung it from the crane. As the year of cultural events ended it was ceremoniously set afire, burning beneath the crane to signify the end of the old and the rebirth of the new Glasgow.
