VENICE , 4 churches Venice has many beautiful chirches. I understand that not everybody likes these kind of shots, so I'll upload the rest of my church pictures from Venice in one time. The main upload is the Redentore church. Here's the description: Redentore Church Andrea Palladio/Antonio Da Ponte 1577-92 History Fiorenza Corner and Teodosia Scripiana builchurch and monastery to St Mary of the Angels, given to Fra Bonaventura degli Emmanueli and his Capuchins in 1541. They were expelled five years later by the heretic Fra Bernadino Occhino, they found refuge in the nearby monastery of Sant'Angelo, returning in 1548 when the monastery was destroyed and the heretic expelled. A new church was commissioned from Palladio by the Republic to commemorate the end of the 1576 plague (which killed 50,000 people, Titian among them) the church of the Redentore (Redeemer) was built for ceremony, on the site of the church of San Jacopo. Palladio's original design was for a central-plan church like the Pantheon, but this was rejected as a pagan building. What was eventually built is reckoned to be Palladio's finest church, it was completed by Da Ponte following Palladio's death in 1592.The high and wide staircase and the huge doorway are designed for processions. And the church is made to be seen from afar -the best view (left) being from the Zattare opposite. The Festival of the Redentore, giving thanks for the end of the plague, continues. Every year on the third Sunday in July a bridge on barges is built from the Zattere so that Venetians can make the pilgrimage previously lead by the Doge and the Signoria. The festival is also famous for the fireworks the night before. Interior Fine, but with no great paintings. There are three good paintings by Bassano, Veronese and Alvise Vivarini but these are mostly in the (rarely open) sacristy. A visit An unusually uncluttered interior, mostly because the church was built on a site belonging to Capuchin monks, who agreed to take it on providing their vows of poverty were observed. So, no remunerative funerary masses and monuments, and one elegantly unembellished interior. High, pale and airy (due to the many windows) and very Palladian. The wide and aisleless nave has three connected chapels on each side. Over the chancel there's a balustraded dome, and there are two side apses so the Doge and Signoria could sit unobserved by the common herd. There's some middling art (the Tintorettos are 'school of') and so even a Palma il Giovane Deposition stands out a bit. The leaflet in the church speaks airily of 'The nearby sacristy' which 'keeps important works by great artists'. But the Chorus info sheet mentions it not and there seems to be no ready access. Tipica e di grande interesse la schiera di case, presumibilmente secentesca, che chiude il lato est, mentre sullo spigolo sud-ovest spicca un nuovo edificio. Essa deve il suo nome perchè una volta tutte le donne della corte incrociavano la canapa fino a ricavarne delle grosse funi che poi venivano incatramate e portate all'arsenale di Venezia e al porto di Chioggia e altri porti,dove venivano vendute. Con il ricavo contribuivano notevolmente al mantenimento e al benessere della famiglia,questa curiosità mi è stata riferita da un signore di 87 anni con il quale ho avuto il piacere di fare conoscenza e discutere ambilmente seduti su una panchina nel campiello vicino alla corte degustando un ottimo bicchiere di vino bianco e che sentitamente ringrazio per la sua amabile voglia di vivere. Decine di migliaia di migranti e rifugiati politici hanno perso la vita tentando di raggiungere clandestinamente l'Unione europea negli ultimi vent'anni. Vittime soprattutto dei naufragi nel Mediterraneo e dei viaggi nel deserto del Sahara. Secondo i dati elaborati dall'osservatorio Fortress Europe e basati sulle notizie documentate dalla stampa internazionale, le vittime sulle rotte dell'immigrazione verso l'Ue sarebbero almeno 12.572.[41]. Si tratta di dati approssimati per difetto, in quanto non tutti i naufragi sono riportati sulla stampa, specialmente quelli occorsi in prossimità delle coste africane. Il dato reale pertanto potrebbe essere molto maggiore. Nel Mar Mediterraneo e nell'Oceano Atlantico verso le Canarie - stima Fortress Europe - sono annegate 8.830 persone. Metà delle salme (4.648) non sono mai state recuperate. Nel Canale di Sicilia tra la Libia, l'Egitto, la Tunisia, Malta e l'Italia le vittime sono 2.887, tra cui 1.830 dispersi[42]. Altre 110 persone sono morte navigando dall'Algeria verso la Sardegna. Lungo le rotte che vanno dal Marocco, dall'Algeria, dal Sahara occidentale, dalla Mauritania e dal Senegal alla Spagna, puntando verso le isole Canarie o attraversando lo stretto di Gibilterra, sono morte almeno 4.189 persone di cui 2.099 risultano disperse[43]. Nell'Egeo invece, tra la Turchia e la Grecia, hanno perso la vita 896 migranti, tra i quali si contano 461 dispersi.[44] Infine, nel Mare Adriatico, tra l'Albania, il Montenegro e l'Italia, negli anni passati sono morte 603 persone, delle quali 220 sono disperse [45]. Inoltre, almeno 603 migranti sono annegati sulle rotte per l'isola francese di Mayotte, nell'oceano Indiano. Il mare non si attraversa soltanto su imbarcazioni di fortuna, ma anche su traghetti e mercantili, dove spesso viaggiano molti migranti, nascosti nella stiva o in qualche container, ad esempio tra la Grecia e l'Italia. Ma anche qui le condizioni di sicurezza restano bassissime: 151 le morti accertate per soffocamento o annegamento dall'osservatorio. Nel Sahara poi le vittime censite sono almeno 1.594 dal 1996. Tra i morti si contano anche le vittime delle deportazioni collettive praticate dai governi di Tripoli, Algeri e Rabat, abituati da anni - secondo quanto riportato dalla stampa - ad abbandonare a se stessi gruppi di centinaia di persone in zone frontaliere in pieno deserto ♫

Recomiendo verla en grande. Al sur de Venecia podemos encontrar Giudecca, un grupo de islas que se separa de la bella Venecia por un canal llamado Canale della Giudecca. Se encuentra aproximadamente a una distancia de 300 metros de la plaza de San Marcos. Aunque son las islas más grandes de los alrededores no cuentan con un gran tamaño. De este a oeste miden unos 2.000 metros, mientras que de norte al sur apenas llegan a unos 300 metros. Separada por una pequeña porción de laguna la pequeña isla de San Giorgio Maggiore sea tal vez una de las escenas más reproducidas en imágenes de Venecia. Antiguamente estaba habitada por monjes benedictinos, actualmente la mayoría de las construcciones pertenece a la Fundación Cini. Esta Fundación se dedica a la recuperación del patrimonio veneciano. La iglesia y el monasterio datan de 1.559 y son una de las mejores obras de Palladio. En su esfuerzo por tomar el modelo romano, construyó el frontón, el sendero interno y una iglesia de proporciones perfectas. Dentro de la iglesia se conservan obras de arte como: La Última Cena y La Congregación del Maná ambas de Tintoretto. El Campanile tal vez sea lo más visitado de la isla, pues ofrece unas preciosas vistas de la Piazza dignas de ser inmortalizadas.

In primo piano la Chiesa del Redentore La Basilica del Santissimo Redentore, più nota semplicemente come Chiesa del Redentore, è un importante edificio religioso di Venezia progettato dall'architetto Andrea Palladio nel 1577 sull'isola della Giudecca. All’interno sono esposte opere di Domenico Tintoretto, Paolo Veronese, Palma il Giovane, Francesco Bassano, Alvise Vivarini, Pietro della Vecchia. Nell’estate del 1575 scoppia a Venezia una terribile epidemia di peste che in due anni provocherà 50.000 morti, quasi un veneziano su tre. Nel settembre del 1576, quando il male sembra invincibile dagli sforzi umani, il Senato chiede l’aiuto divino facendo voto di realizzare una nuova chiesa intitolata al Redentore. Scegliendo rapidamente fra diverse opzioni circa forma, localizzazione e progettista cui affidare la costruzione, nel maggio del 1577 si pone la prima pietra del progetto di Andrea Palladio (che dal 1570 era il Proto della Serenissima, architetto capo della Repubblica Veneta). Il 20 luglio successivo si festeggia la fine della peste con una processione che raggiunge la chiesa attraverso un ponte di barche, dando inizio a una tradizione che dura ancora oggi. [da wiki]

Italia_Venezia: 18-19 luglio 2009. Una delle feste più tradizionali che risale all'anno 1576, epoca in cui, a causa di una terribile pestilenza che infieriva sulla città, il Senato della Repubblica fece voto di innalzare un tempio in onore di Cristo Redentore nell'isola della Giudecca. A tale tempio sono legati i famosi architetti Andrea Palladio e Antonio Da Ponte. Questa festa è una delle più caratteristiche e tra le più amate dai veneziani. Nella serata del terzo sabato di luglio centinaia di imbarcazioni, ornate di fronde e palloncini multicolori, si radunano nel Canale della Giudecca e nel Bacino di S. Marco. Dalle rive illuminate e sui balconi dei palazzi si assiepa una grande folla per assistere a questa festa di suoni e luci che trionfa con un grande spettacolo pirotecnico che rinfrange sull'acqua giochi cromatici altamente suggestivi. Poi le barche, fra canti e suoni, si irradiano per i canali della città per ricongiungersi verso l'alba al Lido ad attendere il levar del sole. La giornata di Domenica è dedicata al pellegrinaggio alla Chiese del Redentore, attraversando il ponte di barche.

This was taken when we were arriving in Venice. The ship was moving kind of slow so I could take this with out to much trouble. Here´s a brief explanation about this building that I found on the net: The Chiesa del Santissimo Redentore (English: Church of the Most Holy Redeemer), commonly known as Il Redentore, is a 16th century Roman Catholic church located in the Dorsoduro sestiere of the Italian city of Venice. It was designed by the architect Andrea Palladio and built as a votive church to thank God for the deliverance of the city from a major outbreak of the plague. Located on the waterfront of the Canale della Giudecca, it dominates the skyline of the island of Giudecca. It is a member of the Chorus Association of Venetian churches and contains a number of paintings by artists including Tintoretto, Paolo Veronese and Francesco Bassano. I would also like to thank farbspiel (Klaus Herrmann) on his great blog HDR Cookbook that helped me out on a couple of issues.

Only Thing I Could Think of For BLUE - Gotta Love the Dress. Originally called the “Spinalunga” (long spine) because of its long narrow shape, its moden day name derives from the 13 th Century when it was home to a Jewish community. Later it became the home of Villas built by rich Venetians that boast some of the most beautiful Venetian gardens still left intact. One of the main attractions of the Giudecca is Palladio's Redentore church built in 1577 to celebrate the salvation of the city after a terrible plague. The Redentore festival that celebrates the end of the plague every third Saturday in July is one of Venice 's most popular festivals. Venice Italy

I found this Gondola Quattrosentesca in a shipyard on Giudecca in Venice. Covered gondolas are unusual, and this one is a relic, in dire need of restoration. Bare wood, broken window, ripped curtain, weeds inside. End of the fairytale, perhaps. I shot this with a Norita 66; its a nice 120 manual camera, with a lovely bright 88mm f2 lens. But it needs a service, the cloth shutter is known to occasionally bounce open - it happened here- that's the dark bar on the left cutting into the frame. Its not consistent; one shutter bounce out of 4 rolls. Its an interesting artifact. Nevertheless, I wish it hadn't happened.
