Kumagaya (Japanese: 熊谷市; -shi) is a city located in Saitama, Japan and part of the Greater Tokyo Area. The city was named for the 12th-century warrior Kumagai Naozane, and was a post town and silk market during the Edo Period (1603-1867). It was designated as a city on April 1, 1933.
