Kota Bharu (Jawi:k+w+t+ b+h+a+r+w+), a town in Malaysia, is the state capital of Kelantan. It is also the name of a district in which Kota Bharu City is situated. The name means 'new city' or 'new castle/fort' in Malay. Kota Bharu is in the northeastern part of Peninsular Malaysia, and lies near the mouth of the Kelantan River at 6°8'N 102°15'E. In 2005, it had an estimated population of 425,294.

Kota Bharu itself offers many museums near Independence Square . The most amazing building however is the central market. It is an octagonal building in the centre of town and houses a very colourful and active market every day. Nearby is a plain square which turns into the local food market in the evenings.

Great temples to visits in the nearby Kota Bharu Town: Wat Pothivihan (huge reclining Buddha), Wat Mai Suwan Khiri (dragon Boat & standing Buddha), Wat Machimarran Varran (sitting Buddha), and Wat Serova Buddhist Temples (Goddess of Mercy - Kuan Yin).

• Caves Explorer at Gua Ikan,Dabong.

• Stong Waterfall,reputed to be the highest in Southeast Asia, drops from a height of about 990 metres.

• Mount Stong State Park,One of the main attractions at the state park is Gunung Stong@Mt.Stong (1,422 meters), a dome-shaped granite complex more than 500 million years old.

• Nenggiri Rafting Adventure -The selected leg of the journey covers approximatedly about 50 km, departing from Kuala Betis / Gua Cha and ends up at Kampung Star.

Kota Bharu: Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Mahkota Kelantan berangkat mencemar duli ke majlis pengurniaan biasiswa kecil Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Kelantan (MAIK)di Dewan Asma’ Maahad Muhammadi Perempuan. Majlis yang berlangsung pada 12 Mei 2011 itu menyaksikan seramai 85 pengetua sekolah-sekolah Yayasan Islam Kelantan (YIK) menerima sumbangan biasiswa bagi pihak pelajar di sekolah masing-masing. Peruntukan yang diluluskan oleh MAIK pada tahun ini meningkat sebanyak RM200,000.00 kepada RM700,000.00 berbanding RM500,000.00 tahun lalu. Menurut Pengarah YIK dalam persembahan ucapannya, pertambahan berkenaan telah memberi peluang kepada 4613 pelajar untuk menerima sumbangan berbanding 3547 pada tahun sebelumnya dengan harapan sumbangan berkenaan dapat meringankan bebanan kewangan pelajar ke arah meningkatkan kecemerlangan akademik. Majlis yang penuh bersejarah itu mendapat sambutang hangat para pelajar dengan kibaran bendera sepanjang keberangkatan tiba dan keberangkatan pulang Yang teramat Mulia Tuanku. Pihak YIK mengucapkan terimakasih kepada semua pihak yang telah berkerja keras menjayakan program berkenaan terutamanya kepada pengetua, guru-guru dan semua pelajar Maahad Muhammadi Perempuan, Jalan Merbau Kota Bharu. Central Market, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia You could find anything at the Central Market...fruit, eggs, flowers, crafts, souvenirs and meat. All equally covered in flies and rat poo. I'm not sure which was worse....the smells or the rat army scampering around the produce. Whatever it was, I didn't linger around for long!
