October 1970 F-105 Thunderbird Fighter at Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand Two teenage helicopter mechanics from U.S. Army Aviation 270th Transportation Detachment, USARSUPTHAI, with a hangar adjacent to the USAF TFW. Pictured is one of the new guys in our unit, a young arrogant soldier from No. California, cocky enough to climb up where he doesn't belong. Even though I worked next to these fighters for 2 years (1969-1971) watching them take-off and land, I am just now learning the full story of these pilots and aircraft 40 years later from documentaries. Views like this are why I love jump-seating in the cockpit during ferry flights. Korat is a small airbase in Thailand, home of the 1st RTAF Air Wing, and the only reason I managed to take this picture was due to the Tower ordering us to hold until this Fighting Falcon landed. Best seat in the house.

F-105 Wild Weasels on the flight line at Korat RTAFB in 1972. Scanned from a 35mm slide and cleaned up in photoshop. I believe these are G models with AGM-78's on the wing hardpoints. These were used on Iron Hand missions against SAM sites in North Vietnam.
