Another example of DDR grandeur is the Kosmos that opened on Oktober 7th, 1962. It was designed by the same architects as the Kino International further down the road, Josef Kaiser and Herbert Aust. In 1996 owner UFA added an extra 9 auditoriums, while the original 1001-seat auditorium stayed in tact and just got refurbished (new seats, new curtains, new wall coverings, new colorscheme).
