The orthodox Uspensky Cathedral stands near to the channel on a high stony hill. The Cathedral is one of reminders of the Russian board period. Orthodoxy professes nearby 1 % of the population of the country. The Cathedral was constructed in 1868 of a red brick in the Russian-Byzantian style with elements of the western architecture under the project of Gornostaev. It is the largest orthodox Cathedral in the western and northern Europe. The Cathedral is topped by spikes and 13 domes with crosses. The ornate arches base on four huge granite columns. The big iconostasis by Russian artists is located inside. The three-storied belltower is constructed at the southern side of the Cathedral. In the summer Monday - Saturday 9.30 - 16.00, Sunday 12.00 - 15.00. The service is conducted in the Finnish language. IMG_0784
