Thank you my dear friends for your wonderful comments about my pics from ! I REALLY was surprised that you like them ((because I had only 50mm lens and was pressed for time and bla bla bla)). And I wanted to take another kind of photos... :)) I was truly moved by one comment, it was written by Rimma: «I cannot judge upon any technical characteristics of the images as photopictures since I have no professional knowledge on the subject and at the same time I cannot talk about any artistic value of these pictures since again I lack education in Arts. But the most important in these images is that they give me a feeling of presence in this magic country. And play and use of colour, perfect compositiom subject or, let’s say, ideal perspective are not the only point here. I feel that these pictures have the air of Prague – chilly wind brining a mixture of smells of autumn leaves and beer; sound of chime together with tinkling of tram’s bells; fluttering pigeons and blooming geranium in every window, beautiful reflections of street lights in ripple water of Vltava. And this is true about every picture – really a picture, not a photograph, because they are alive.» P.S. special thanks to Irina for help in translation :)) ^^ Ириша, ты прелесть :) Друзья, спасибо вам огромное за все комментарии и отзывы!

Charles Bridge and Vltava river, seen from Kampa Island on the Lesser Quarter side, Prague, Czech Republic Some background information: The Charles Bridge crosses the Vltava river. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, but wasn’t finished before the beginning of the 15th century. As the only means of crossing the Vltava river, the Charles Bridge was the most important connection between the Old Town, Prague Castle and adjacent areas until 1841. This solid-land connection made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe. The bridge was originally called the Stone Bridge (Kamenný most) or the Prague Bridge (Pražský most) but has been known as the Charles Bridge (Karlův most) since 1870. It is 516 meters long and nearly 10 meters wide, resting on 16 arches shielded by ice guards. Three bridge towers protect its portals, two of them on the Lesser Quarter side and this one on the Old Town side. The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries of saints, most of them baroque-style, which were erected around 1700. During the day the Charles Bridge is a very busy place, with painters, owners of kiosks and other traders alongside numerous tourists crossing the bridge. Only during the night it changes its face into a more quiet spot. Kampa Island is an island in the Vltava river on the Lesser Quarter side. Charles Bridge crosses its northern tip. The island is separated from the Lesser Quarter by a narrow artificial channel called the Devil's Stream. This waterway used to power watermills, which unfortunately are no longer existent. Supposedly it was named after a sharp-tongued woman who lived nearby in a house called The Seven Devils. Kampa Island itself was named in 1620 by Spanish soldiers who used the island as their camp and tented here during the Battle of White Mountain. By the way, perhaps it would have been a better idea to take this picture without these leaves on top. At least I think so. Well, hindsight is easier than foresight. ;-)

The two bridge towers from the Lesser Quarter side and the gateway between them, seen from the Charles Bridge, Prague, Czech Republic Some background information: The two towers from the Lesser Quarter side are located at the western end of the Charles Bridge. They differ in size and style. The shorter one is a remaining of the Judith Bridge, which used to be the predecessor bridge of the Charles Bridge, built in 1158 in the Romanesque style. The higher one dates from 1464. It’s a representative of the Gothic period and built to a plan of the German architect Peter Parler. The Charles Bridge crosses the Vltava river. This is the famous Charles Bridge, crossing the river in Prague. Photographed from a viewtower at the end of the bridge. I spent an hour or so busking here Monday night with Mel, an Austrian guitarist, Alex & 2 American sisters, Laura & Mora who were singing for their supper, well for fun really. Mel & I joined them then went to a bar to spend the earnings. COEXIST - The John Lennon Wall in Prague

COEXIST - The John Lennon Wall in Prague
Made by Martin Ujlaki
Lennon Wall. The Lennon Wall was an ordinary wall in Prague, but since John Lennon's death Prague's youth have covered it with John Lennon inspired graffiti and Beatles lyrics.. In 1988 the wall was a source of irritation for the then a communist regime of Gustav Husak. Young Czechs would write grievances on the wall and a government report written of it at this time led to a clash between hundreds of students and security police on the nearby Charles Bridge. The movement these students followed was described ironically as Lennonism and the Czech authorities described these educated peaceful people as alcoholics, mentally deranged, sociopaths, and agents of Western capitalism. The wall continuously undergoes change and the original portrait of Lennon is long lost under layers of spray-paint. The wall is owned by the Knights of the Maltese Cross, who graciously allow graffiti to continue on what is actually a lovely Renaissance wall. It is located at Velkoprevorske namesi (Grand Priory Square), by: Mala Strana, on prague-guide.co.uk - - - Also, see the Flickr group:

You must remember this: A kiss is still a kiss, A sigh is just a sigh. The fundamental things apply As time goes by. And when two lovers woo They still say: 'I love you'. On that you can rely, No matter what the future brings, As time goes by. Moonlight and love songs, Never out of date. Hearts full of passion, Jealousy and hate. Woman needs man, And man must have his mate. That, no one can deny. It's still the same old story, A fight for love and glory, A case of do or die. The world will always Welcome lovers As time goes by. As time goes by (theme from Casablanca film)

Charles Bridge, Prague, Czech Republic. I probably took two hundred shots of the Charles Bridge and a great many of them were at the western end. The cloudy weather made the chase for good light fairly frustrating. Most of my time was spent waiting for better light while taking shots to tune the composition. I finally scored some beautiful light for a few minutes during morning number three.
