Kakopetria
Kakopetria is a village located 55km south-west of the capital Nicosia on the north facing foothills of the Troodos Mountain range. It stands at an altitude of 667 metres and it is the highest village in the Solea valley. or the Monastery of the Knife founded by Byzantine Emperor Manuel Comnenos in 1190. In the time of Iconoclasts in the 8th century, an icon of the Virgin was hidden in a cave near the holy well and naked sword was buried before it. Four centuries later it was found by two hermits from Syria and their built their cell on the spot. Three years later one of those monks traveled to Constantinople to plead for funds to establish the monastery and got this from Manuel Comnenos.
