[Les Promeneurs du Jardin] 68/365 - Gendarme
Made by potopoyo
Today I've been invited to get out of the Garden by 2 wardens. Maybe you didn't know (I didn't) but le Jardin du Luxembourg is a private property of the Senate that is located inside of it. After the third straight day I went there, they started to recognize my face and told me I had to make an official demand to the Senators if I wanted to make some photo shooting inside. Ok I said, I'll go!. So I walked to my car but on my way, I saw an Iranish lady with her umbrella upside down and couldn't help myself asking her if I could take a picture which I did... but two other guards who have been warned came to us and asked me to follow them to the exit! They even followed me to my car from the Garden! That's too bad, but not that much, since I still could take a photo of this Gendarmes (is this word correct?) that are different from the wardens, since they protect the Senat buildings but not the Garden itself... Not to bad also because I'm leaving tomorrow going to NYC baby!!! I'm so happy to go, there I will meet my family but also do some business hopefully! So here was the last shot from this short series Les Promeneurs du Jardin. Thanks for all your lovely words and favs and stay tuned for the next series Potopoyo in NYC! See large

Palais du Luxembourg

Palais du Luxembourg
Made by |neurosis|
The palace was originally built for Marie de Médicis, mother of king Louis XIII of France, on the site of an old hôtel particulier owned by the Duc de Piney-Luxembourg. Her architect was Salomon de Brosse. Louis commissioned the artists Nicolas Poussin and Philippe de Champaigne to decorate the Palace. However, by the time the palace had been finished, Marie de Médicis had been banished. It was inherited by Marie's granddaughter, Anne, Duchess of Montpensier. The palace was not used until it was owned by Louis XVI's brother, the Comte de Provence. During the French Revolution, it was the center of the French Directory and later the first residence of Napoleon Bonaparte when he was First Consul of France In the 19th century the palace was extensively remodeled, with a new garden façade by Alphonse de Gisors (1836-1841), and a cycle of paintings (1845-1847) by Eugène Delacroix that was added to the library. During the German occupation of Paris (1940-1944), Hermann Göring took over the Palais as the headquarters of the Luftwaffe in France, taking for himself a sumptuous suite of rooms to accommodate his visits to the French capital. His subordinate, Luftwaffe Field Marshal Hugo Sperrle, also took an apartment and spent most of the war enjoying the luxurious surroundings. The Field Marshal's craving for luxury and public display ran a close second to that of his superior, Goering; he was also his match in corpulence, wrote armaments minister Albert Speer after a visit to Sperrle in Paris. The Palais was a designated strong point for German forces defending the city in August 1944, but thanks to the decision of commanding Gen. Dietrich von Choltitz to surrender the city rather than fight, the Palais was only minimally damaged. The building was later used for the peace conference of 1946.

"Le Prophète" - Louis Derbré

"Le Prophète" - Louis Derbré
Made by François Lafite

Daddy Fell into the Pond Everyone grumbled. The sky was grey. We had nothing to do and nothing to say. We were nearing the end of a dismal day, And then there seemed to be nothing beyond, Then Daddy fell into the pond! And everyone's face grew merry and bright, And Timothy danced for sheer delight. Give me the camera, quick, oh quick! He's crawling out of the duckweed! Click! Then the gardener suddenly slapped his knee, And doubled up, shaking silently, And the ducks all quacked as if they were daft, And it sounded as if the old drake laughed. Oh, there wasn't a thing that didn't respond When Daddy Fell into the pond! a poem by Alfred Noyes

Neither Flesh Nor Fleshless

Neither Flesh Nor Fleshless
Made by The Polstar*
At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless; Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is, But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity, Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards, Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point, There would be no dance, and there is only the dance. - T.S. Second shot from this series named unoriginally Walkers of the Jardin du Luxembourg. Had to post product it a little bit to match to the previous one including exposure and white balance. I took it today so there is no relations between Jacques and Jacqueline, I swear! People watching in Paris What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare? No time to stand beneath the boughs And stare as long as sheep or cows. No time to see, when woods we pass, Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass. No time to see, in broad daylight, Streams full of stars, like skies at night. No time to turn at Beauty's glance, And watch her feet, how they can dance. No time to wait till her mouth can Enrich that smile her eyes began. A poor life this if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. W H Davies (cropped following some advice...)

Palais du Luxembourg - Senate of France

The Palais du Luxembourg in the VIe arrondissement of Paris, north of the Jardin du Luxembourg, is the seat of French Senate. The formal Luxembourg Garden (French: Jardin du Luxembourg) presents a 25-hectare green parterre of gravel and lawn populated with statues and provided with large basins of water where children sail model boats. In the southwest corner, there is an orchard of apple and pear trees and the théâtre des marionnettes (puppet theatre). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxembourg_Palace

10.02.08 Spring has definitely arrived in Paris. Today I took a walk around Les Jardins de Luxembourg and signs of Spring were everywhere ... I think some people even thought it was summer ... see my 'Jardins de Luxembourg' set for more info!
