The Shot Jameos de Agua is part of a 6 km long lava tunnel system in northern Lanzarote. Parts of the roof of the tunnel have collapsed. The picture was taken with a Sony A550 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 10mm. Taken on a Tripod. 3 raw images 2EV spacing. Opened in Photoshop first and each image noise reduced with Noiseware Pro and saved as tiffs. Photomatix Outputted in Photomatrix to detail enhancer. Click the Camera name top right for Exif details and the settings used. Photoshop General adjustments in levels and curves to enhance. Saturation layer greens were used to reduce green saturation in rocks. Saturation layer blues used to tone down blue in the lake Original image -2EV copied in as new layer with layer mask and used to reduce highlights at far end of pool and in the hole in the roof. Munidopsis polymorpha, Jameos del Agua, Lanzarote

The small cave-dwelling squat lobster Munidopsis polymorpha is endemic to Lanzarote. Recent research indicates that it is probably more widespread in the islands' underground cracks and fissures filled with seawater. Visitors to the island will easily see this species in the famous lava tunnel saltwater lake at Jameos de Agua, one of the main tourist attractions on Lanzarote and definitely worth a vist. The tuesday started bright and early as we were doing the North tour of the island. First stop was the jameos names Jameos Del Agua which is due to the unique Internal lake. It was the first centre of art, culture and tourism to be created by local artistic legend Cesar Manrique. This shot was taken looking up the stairway to the opening of the volcanic tunnel, it was shot with my Sigma 10mm fisheye....

Even though the Canary Islands are, geographically speaking, part of Africa, there are no lions, elephants, cheetahs, red butt baboons or gazelles being eaten by crocodiles here. Only a lot of freshly baked stones and a few stubborn vegetal fellas getting the job started. And tourists with cameras.
