Jajce (Cyrillic: J%aj%ce) is a town and municipality in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, located in the Central Bosnia Canton of the Federation. It is on the crossroads between Banja Luka, Mrkonjic Grad and Donji Vakuf, on the confluence of the rivers Pliva and Vrbas.

Jajce /Јајце/ (meaning 'egg') is a small town in central Bosnia and Herzegovina on the confluece of Pliva and Vrbas river. The town was founded in the 14th century. It was one of the capital cities of the independent Bosnian kingdom. After the fall of the Bosnian kingdom, the city temporarily became part of the Ottoman Empire. Afterwards, the Hungarian king, Mathias Corvin acquired it from the Ottomans and transformed it into a border fortress against the Turks. Several decades later the Ottoman Empire conquered it again. Jajce lost his importance in the Turkish era. Before the Bosnian war Jajce was a junction between the areas of the Serb majority to the North, the Bosnian Muslim majority areas to the Southeast and the Croatian majority areas to the Southwest. During the war the city was heavily bombarded by different armies. According to the Dayton Agreement, the city is part of Bosnian-Croat federation. The photo shows different historical moments of Jajce. On the left side of the photo is the most important monument of the city, St. Luke church. The tower is a rare example of Romanesque arquitecture in Bosnia. On the top of the picture there is a citadel. In the background there are some Bosnian styled houses and another one destroyed by the war of 1992-95.
