So hat Canaletto seinerzeit Dresden gemalt. Zu sehen ist die Frauenkirche, ein Gebäude, dessen Name mir unbekannt ist, der Rathausturm, die Kathedrale (ehemals Katholische Hofkirche), den Schloßturm und die Semperoper. Leider gibt es in Dresden noch kein vernünftiges Beleuchtungskonzept, so dass manche Gebäude stark hervortreten, andere aber kaum wahrgenommen werden. This is the view Canaletto painted in his time. You can see the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), a building where I don't know the name, the tower of the city hall, the cathedral (former Catholic Court Church), the tower of the Castle, and the Semper Opera House. Unfortunately Dresden does not have a reasonable concept for lighting the city. That is why some buildings are seen very bright while others are hardly seen.

his eyes said it all... as i bent down across from him, a crowd of tourists push through the doors of the church steps he sits on. 1 out of some 30 people drop a coin into the cup. One. The rest of his sign says: i have 4 children - thank you. He just stares at me, as the tears well up in my eyes. He doesn't move. But smiles. I give him the bills i had in my pocket and say danke schön. I wanted to say so much more but didn't know how to express it all in german. The rest of the day all i thought about was his eyes.
