Dead Quacker
Made by MSVG
As she lay her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, I'm so sorry, your Duck Cuddles has passed away. The distressed owner wailed, Are you sure? Yes, I am sure. The duck is dead, he replied. How can you be so sure, she protested. I mean, you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something. The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room, and returned a few moments later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and s! hook hi s head. The vet patted the dog and took it out, and returned a few moments later with a cat. The cat jumped up on the table and also sniffed delicately at the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on it's haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck. Then the vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. $150!, she cried, $150 just to tell me my duck is dead!! The vet shrugged. I'm sorry. If you'd taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150.00. source

Good News - my camera turns on.. the pictures are still all there.. umm Bad News - i cant upload anything, it makes weird noises and there is a weird black line on the screen or lens or something Funny News - It took a picture underwater when it fell lol Note : if your camera ever falls in a lake.. take those little moister absorber things you get in shoe boxes ( i have a shopping issue so i have tons of shoe boxes) and put them in a inclosed place with your camera.. it helps its really upsetting because, i finally found something i love to doo and am decent at .. well in my books at least and then i lose it just like that because of my irrational fear of birds I FUCKING HATE BIRDS!!

either this is the makings of a new pink floyd cover or somehow a 3xp shot processed in photomatix can turn a raging electrical storm over west toronto into a floating deity. and what's with the devil - top left? 3 bracketed images processed photomatix tonemapped and colour adjusted/black levels in PS. 'dat's it. thanks for looking. view this one for full effect -------- super thanks to the kind folks at The World Through My Eyes for selecting turning point as their image of the day for May 16, 06.

toronto, the green
Made by n+s
no matter the season or weather condition, i've long stated that there's always a new and unique shot to be found at this west toronto park. this was captured just after a massive electrical storm rolled through toronto pushing in a cold front from a very toasty day - resulting in the steam you see. even though i live around the corner, for newcomers (or not) to toronto it's a great place to kick back, clear the head, walk the dog, ride the bike, stare at a lake with no buildings in the way or just admire the toronto skyline at dawn/dusk. more here from the past couple years in the humber parks:

Humber Bay Park
Made by Thankful!
After shooting the sunrise, I walked along the beach trying to figure out how to capture both the morning clouds and the cool yellow trees. But then I noticed that other photographers were shooting the sunbeams shooting out from between the clouds. So I did too. And two birds just happened to cruise into the sunlight. Sweet! Without my glasses, I thought they were loons. But now that I've uploaded the shots, it is obvious that they are cormorants. I'm not much of a fisherman, so I don't have anything against cormorants. Btw, do you think that this should be cropped?

Northern Pintail Drake - Portrait
Made by pwtphotography (Nathan)
It was so awesome to get really close to this regal Pintail. They have been my favourite duck since first seeing them last spring out in Minesing but I struggled to get decent images. This guy was hanging out with the local Mallards and was quite tame allowing some crazy close encounters, an experience I'll never forget. You can check out both posts from our spectacular day at Humber Bay Park at pwtphotography.com. Member of the

Muggy day in Toronto
Made by Ms. Abitibi
Saturday was hot & humid in Toronto and there was a lot of fog probably mixed with pollution covering the city. This was taken from Humber Bay Park looking east toward the city centre. We could barely the CN Tower and most of the skyscrappers are hidden away behind the fog... The original was almost b&w so it was an easy decision to convert it! P.S. Pierre was right and this picture was leaning to the left so I have corrected it and replaced it...Thanks for noticing...

time, space and wormholes ........... or something like that.
Made by n+s
12 noon, may 16 did i invoke a space portal into the 23 century? or is mamma nature ready to unleash. or ???? you tell me. the things we just don't see with our eyes.... frankly, combining ND filters and creating extremely long exposed HDR is just great. the humber makes for a good backdrop and finally some intense storm activity to give it a whirl. couple more to come... 6 exposures - longest 4:04 minutes. merged, tonemapped photomatix

Full Supermoon on Toronto
Made by Roaming the World
It was taken when super Moon rose from the horizon of Toronto cityscape. Biggest full Moon in 18 years occurs March 19 2011 In astrology, a supermoon is a full or new moon that coincides with a close approach by the Moon to the Earth. The Moon's distance varies each month between approximately 354,000 km (220,000 mi) and 410,000 km (254,000 mi) due to its elliptical orbit around Earth. Its distance is about 350,000 km on March 19, 2011.

What lay underneath was so much more interesting than the floaties on the surface.

Right, so you know you're off the deep end with your camera when you sit for half an hour (or more) photographing algae. This shoot ended abruptly when I discovered that I had been resting my feet on an ant hill, and those fiery red ants had made it all the way up my running shoes to my legs. I felt those ants crawling on me for the rest of the day! I have quite a gallery of algae shots for my sacrificed legs!

Weekend

Humber River East Park I was waiting for firework show that evening(July 10) in this park and was wandering around with my camera. She and her boyfriend came over. I noticed the colour of her cloth and bike. I took one shot from front without their notice but not good. When they passed by I was amazed with colour contrast of this scene and took this shot. It was in seconds.

He's so pretty-oops I should say handsome

Yesterday my partner and I were going to go look for Pine Grosbeaks but daylight was running out so instead we went down to Humber Bay West. And while parking the car we met a member of the Toronto Bird Observatory, Tova and her sister who told us that they were a pair of Harlequin Ducks immediately south of where we were standing offering great views!

Mrs. Hooded Merganser
Made by naturelover2007
This is one of the female hooded mergansers I was photographing at Humber Bay, before they took off (previous photo). It was the first time I had seen one so close, unlike the male which I have photographed up close on several occasions. Explore #82, Nov. 26/09. Thank you. I hope all my American friends had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday.

This picnic bench almost made me late for work!
Made by gardinergirl
I popped down to the park near the Lake on the way to work since it was a bit foggy this morning and I wanted to snap a few pics. Then the golden light drew me in & I found this dew covered picnic bench. This was before I found the gull feather at the other end! I got all caught up, and then sped off to work.

Come Fly With me
Made by naturelover2007
A pair of hooded mergansers take off on a beautiful sunny Sunday. I had been photographing them while on the pond, so lowered the shutter speed for greater DOF. Sure wish I had thought to increase the speed quickly when they took off to decrease the blurr of the wings. Explore #259, Nov. 24/09. Thank you.

Mother's Day Treat
Made by naturelover2007
I had only about one hour to spend at Humber Bay Park yesterday, before picking up my son at the airport. I was thrilled to see this magnificent Baltimore oriole. He was singing so beautifully, I couldn't miss him perched in the tree. Luckily the sun appeared for a few moments so I could get this shot.

Enjoy your swim today dear, tomorrow it will snow.
Made by naturelover2007
Yesterday it was sunny but cool and I spent most of the day outdoors in Toronto taking photos (is there anything else?). I caught this handsome red-breasted merganser couple enjoying a Sunday outing. I hope they had a good day because the snow has returned! Mother Nature hasn't heard that it is spring.

How Cold?
Made by swilton
Shrubs in Humber Bay Park near the lake that are now regretting laying down roots where they did. It was freezing today but the light was perfect for this. That meant I got to use the tripod I had brought for support while walking on the rocks trying not to fall into the lake instead of HDR.
