Haus der Kulturen der Welt B&W
Made by patmanzzz-back from the States
The Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of the Cultures of the World) in Berlin is Germany's national centre for contemporary non-European art. It presents art exhibitions, theater and dance performances, concerts, author readings, films and academic conferences on non-European Visual Art and culture. It is one of the few institutions which, due to their national and international standing and the quality of their work, receive funding from the federal government as so-called lighthouses of culture. The building is located in the Tiergarten park and a direct neighbour of the Carillon and the new German Chancellery. It was formerly known as the Kongresshalle conference hall, a gift from the United States, designed in 1957 by the American architect Hugh Stubbins Jr. as a part of the Interbau exhibition. John F. Kennedy spoke here during his June 1963 visit to West Berlin. On May 21, 1980 the roof collapsed killing one and injuring numerous people. The hall has been rebuilt in its original style and reopened in 1987 at the 750 years jubilee of Berlin. To Berliners it is also known as the Schwangere Auster (pregnant oyster). wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haus_der_Kulturen_der_Welt View Awards Count

Ticket Counter at Haus der Kulturen der Welt - Berlin Highest Position in Explore #5 Harry Palmer: Oh, by the way, is old Klaus Burger still alive? Police officer: The forger? Harry Palmer: Yeah, the forger. Police officer: I'd like to run you out of Berlin, Palmer! You and MI5 and the Deuxième Bureau and the CIA and the rest of them. Then I can do my job instead of providing work for every forger, confidence man, thief, and murderer in this town! Harry Palmer: Oh, I agree, I agree, I agree. But... is old man Klaus still alive? (Funeral in Berlin - 1966 with Michael Cane)

The Final Piece Of Art

Christian and I went to see an exhibiton on contemporary art from China, a sort of retrospective over the last ten years of the Chinese avant garde, organized into a few quite boring themes. I didn´t find many works that I enjoyed, but just before leaving we found this huge photo scroll, a burlesque remake of an old Chinese scroll painting, with a meticulously portrayed menagerie of characters from today´s China. www.wangqingsong.com/2000pages/night revel of lao li.htm

Looking Into The Unknown
Made by toffi:xc
My friend Tim (seen in the picture) and I were playing chess this evening when we talked about that I would love to do some more nightshots from the location were I took this shot. To my surprise he asked me if I would like to go there right now. Of course I said yes and so we get there. Unfortunately I forgot that is was freezing cold so I just were able to do about 20 shots before I lose a finger ^^. This one here I liked the most :). Thanks to Tim for posing there in the cold while I try to handle my camera ;)

Laserregenbogen
Made by mr172

In 1980 the roof collapsed killing one man and injuring numerous people. I therefore took this picture quite quickly. The collapse was put down to faulty design and poor workmanship; hopefully the rebuilt in 1987 was done to a higher standard!
