The White House, the seat of the Russian government (or actually of the cabinet). It was bombarded during the Russian constitutional crisis in 1993. I took this picture from the observation deck of our hotel. When I tried to take another one, I was told by a security guard it was not allowed to take pictures of this building. Extremely silly, in my opinion, since there must be thousands of pictures in existence already, and thousands of places from where you could take a picture...

the russian White House (Белый дом) was built 1965-1981. Of course it played a major role in Yeltsin's defiance of the 1991 coup and the 1993 showdown between Yeltsin and parliament.
