The day we arrived, we wandered town for a bit. Two great things about Salzburg are that there aren't a million sites to see and the town is managable on foot. We found an Austrian pub for dinner (complete with Wurst, Kraut and a great local beer called Stiegl which has been brewed here since 1492) and made our way to the cellar of St. Peter's in the altstadt for a Mozart piano recital -- the Russian performer, though eccentric, was quite good. After the concert, we capped the night off with the famous Sacher Torte at the luxurious Hotel Sacher across the river from the altstadt.

On Sunday the streets of Salzburg were the scene of a massive demonstration of Serbs against the recent independence of Kosovo. While the demonstration looked peaceful enough, I tried to look as un-American (or German or French or just about any other Western nation) as possible. Some in eastern Europe have not fared well at the hands of angry Serbs lately.
