October 3rd, 2008 - Montreal, Canada This group of four were practicing meditation exercises intended to develop practitioners' hearts and character according to the principles of zhen (truthfulness), shan (compassion or benevolence), and ren (forbearance) as articulated in the teachings of Falun Gong. In the half hour or so my guide, the inimitable , and I spent in the heart of Montreal's Chinatown, a good thirty or forty people must have photographed them - and not once did any one of them appear to be disturbed from his or her state of complete serenity. This one's for you, Sheldon. I think it benefits from being seen .

...at Place des Arts. I stopped and had an Iced Cappuccino and took in the sights around me. It was a beautiful summer day and there were lots of people and lots of sights.. I could have spent the whole afternoon there taking in the sun actually. Ste-Catherine Street was closed off for a large street fair... stalls were set up for blocks and blocks downtown and it was jammed packed with people. I picjed up three belts for $10... thought that was a good deal.

Between Jeanne-Mance and de Bleury, near le Spectrum. A couple of À Louer (For Rent) signs can be seen. The block of Sainte Catherine's between de Bleury and Jeanne-Mance seems to be a commercial dead zone compared to the more vibrant commercial activity between de Bleury pretty much all of the way to Guy, a kilometre or so to the west.

Here's a little teaser of the big main event concert at the Montreal Jazz festival that's probably just wrapping up as I post this.... Nice stage, good music tons of people despite an earlier torrential downpour.... Ahh.. I love living here...(in the summer :)

Between Jeanne-Mance and de Bleury, near le Spectrum. The red Chevy Lumina was the fire inspector's vehicle. Presumably, someone called 911 either for something minor or a false alarm, because I certainly didn't see anything on fire.

The scene wasn't as nice as last year because of all the construction however this little panorama gives an idea of the layout around the Festival site that was busy and free of digging sites. Next year should be phenomenal.
