The Lower Chapel of Sainte-Chapelle Sainte-Chapelle was the personal undertaking of Louis IX (the only French king to become a saint). Built in 6 years (1242-1248) by Pierre de Montreuil, it was designed to house the the Crown of Thorns, the most holy of relics.
