a little over a week ago, Spider-Man was arrested. seriously. --- LOS ANGELES -- A Spider-Man impersonator was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly slugged a man near the Hollywood and Highland complex. This stretch of Hollywood Boulevard is populated by celebrity and movie character impersonators who vie for tourists' attention and tips. Officers arriving on the scene found several different people dressed as Spider-Man. They stopped one Spider-Man, but it wasn't the suspect. However, the second one was. This incident isn't the first of its kind. Two years ago, authorities held a super-hero summit designed to reduce tensions among the impersonators and performers. That meeting was prompted in part by an incident in which a Star Wars Wookiee allegedly head-butted a tour guide. In other incidents, Mr. Incredible, Elmo the Muppet and the dark-hooded character from the movie Scream were arrested for being too aggressive with tourists. Freddie Krueger was also taken into custody for allegedly stabbing someone. No charges were ever filed. --- (how fucking awesome are multiple superheros committing crimes?! ok, not 'awesome', but still...!) yesterday, Ali posted her ten weekly song selections in . i fell a little in love with the one i chose for today on an episode of Grey's. i took this photo in back in August but had forgotten about it until i heard about The Best News Story Ever. the day i shot this, i became fast friends with Michael Meyers from 'Halloween', hockey mask, machete and all. ___________________________ Trouble is a Friend, by Lenka Trouble he will find you no matter where you go, oh oh No matter if you're fast, no matter if you're slow, oh oh He's there in the dark, he's there in my heart He waits in the wings, he's gotta play a part Trouble is a friend, yeah trouble is a friend of mine

having finished the book yesterday and having seen the movie just last week, it was pretty much a harry potter week for me... i saw a clip on youtube that showed dan radcliffe, emma watson and rupert grint at the mann chinese theater. i've been here quite a few times but with not much to do after work, i took my bro and met up with my buddy megz and we headed to this spot. neither one of them had ever been there before so at least they got to experience it. there were a lot of tourists but it wasn't too hard getting our shots. i actually wanted to pose with the book lying down on my side in a lounging pose... but i settled for something easier. i also saw one of those people dressed up as movie characters and one dude was dressed up as snape... i dismissed him at first but when i decided that if i took a pic with him it would be fitting since i came out here to see the harry potter trio's prints... but he had already taken off... ah well. just thought it would be funny since the question about whether snape is a good dude or evil dude is one of the most discussed topics amongst fans. i really like doing things like this... making spontaneous treks out to see something and then capture it for my flickr stream... yeah its a bit of a drive... but i think we had fun. also had dinner at palm thai restaurant, one of my favorite thai restaurants. the thai elvis impersonator was no where to be seen however. heck it was still early and we headed over to the paramount lot to see if the huge bumblebee transformer robot was still on display... alas it was no longer there. a friend of mine snapped a shot of it with her camera phone and i really wanted to take one too. i wonder where it is now. #41 of project 365

She surely knew a thing about control.

She surely knew a thing about control.
Made by bhampton1963
She said she was a dancer. If I believed it, it was my business She surely knew a thing or two about control. Next to the bar we hit the samovar. She almost slipped right through my fingers. It was snowing outside and in her soul. Well, maybe you're a dancer, and maybe I'm the King of Old Siam. I thought it through... best to let the illusion roll. I wouldn't say I've never heard that tale before, my frozen little señorita, but if your dream is good, why not share it when the nights are cold? Hey Moscow, what's your story? Lady, take your time, don't hurry. Maybe a student of the agricultural plan. Hey Moscow, what's your name? If you don't want to say, don't worry. It would probably be hard for me to make it scan. With her phrase book in her silk soft hand she spoke in riddles while the vodka listened. I said, ``Let me look up love, if I might be so bold.'' She was the nearest thing to Rock and Roll that side of the velvet curtain that separates eastern steel from western gold. Hey Miss Moscow, what's your story? You needn't speak aloud, just whisper. Am I just the closest thing to an Englishman? You've seen me in your magazines, or maybe on state television. I'm your Pepsi-Cola, but you won't take me out the can. She said she was a dancer --- so she did. She said she was a dancer. If I believed it, it was my business. It felt like a merry dance that I was being led. So I stole one kiss. It was a near miss. She looked at me like I was Jack the Ripper. She leaned in close. ``Goodnight,'' was all she said. So I took myself off to bed. Said She Was a Dancer, by Jethro Tull

Los Angeles is NOT the most beautiful city in the world. In fact, LA is giant cesspool. (I believe I've earned the right to write that.) She has done a good job with her metro stations though. For such a corrupt city, someone, somehow did good and it wasn't Disney. This is the rather futuristic Metro station under the Kodak Theatre on the corner of Hollywood and Highland. (that's where they hold the Oscars) I know I'm not the first to take this shot, but I still think it's interesting. Well, not as interesting as the Swedish train stations, those folks over there know how to decorate a train station. Thank you to all the people that let me know they actually use these little tips, good to know someone's reading them. Image too dark? You could increase the brightness or bump-up the exposure but that's a destructive method. Here's an easy way to increase brightness globally or selectively w/o destroying the integrity of your pixels. 1. Copy layer 2. Change blending mode to screen 3. Reduce opacity to a desired level 4. If you only wish to increase the brightness in certain areas: create a mask and paint in the areas desired.

Working on vanishing the mic stand. Alright, so here's the deal. I don't shoot live shows with flash. I have my reasons and if you wish to partake in an epic debate about why I should, I'll gladly oblige your request. That being said, in order for me to obtain sharp images, I use my handy ST-E2 flash transmitter which allows me to focus as if it were day. I happened to forget that nifty little device at my place before heading out. To make matters worse, this performance had little to no lighting (for good reason) as they were projecting motion pictures on the wall behind the artists. You can imagine my frustration as I was sorting through my photos to find less than a quarter were sharp. All this taken into account, it was still an absolutely amazing performance by one of my favorite group of artists out there. Check out the video here. Quick facts: 554 images shot. of the 554, 127 were usable. of the 127, 54 were 'good'. of the 54, 10 were 'excellent' of the 10, i picked 5.

Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit For Theirs Is The Kingdom Of Heaven

Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit For Theirs Is The Kingdom Of Heaven
Made by Emmanuel_D.Photography
Our Lord Jesus Chirst Said, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: ~Matthew Chapter5: verse 3 to 12 ................................................................................................................... Vogue Theatre

Vogue Theatre
Made by TooMuchFire
Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to shoot the full sign to the Vogue. There are some overgrown trees that block most vantage points. With those lemons comes a few drops of lemonade. From www.cinematreasures.org: Designed by noted theatre architect S. Charles Lee, the Vogue Theatre opened on July 16th, 1935 with a seating capacity of 897, all on one floor. The Vogue was run by Fox West Coast Theatres for many years until Mann Theatres took over in the early 1990's. Legend has it this theatre is haunted by a former projectionist, named Fritz, who once worked at the theatre. The Vogue Theatre closed in around 1995 and for a short time was used as a theatre for psychic performances. It then had occassional use as a film location space. In December 2001, the theatre fittings were stripped out and sold off. In 2009, the building was being fitted out as live performance space named the Supper Club. 6675 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles CA.

Metro Retro

For some reason the Los Angeles beach areas experience June Gloom. Marine layer fog until 1:00pm then perfect, clear, blue skies. Neither situation is good for photography.....So I went 4 days without shooting anything....I couldn't take it anymore so I looked for something indoors and came up with a Metro Station decked out in 80s style, Hollywood / Universal Studios tour goodness...... OK, a few people asked: To be honest, the image your looking at has about 30 people in it...I ran one very long exposure after the 7 bracketed images.. It was open so long, none of the people are visible...I then matched white balance from the long exposure with the tone-mapped image....then I just masked out the people using the LE. Really does look cool in full size. If you want to see the cutest child ever click HERE

New CD Completely Finished!

New CD Completely Finished!

Today was a day years in the making. After meeting Nick Sterling, working for over a year on the new music, recording the record with Bob Marlette, yesterday we finally Mastered the record. Today I listened to the whole CD , mastered with precision by Tom Baker at Precision Mastering, & I must say that I could not be happier. The production is of such quality, the CD is immensely listenable due to the hi quality sound & tones. Yes we rock hard as a band but audiophiles will dig this CD for sound quality alone! This is the kind of CD you put on to test your home theatre system with. I am so lucky to work with such pros & I cannot wait for you all to hear this!! Feels amazing to have it done, now what do I do till September ? Maybe we will start on the next one haha !! Photo by Gabriel Goldberg

Jeannie Pepper

Jeannie Pepper
Made by bhampton1963
Jeannie Pepper at F.O.X.E. Awards in Hollywood, approximately 1996. Shot on film with Pentax K1000 35 mm camera. I always consider this one an example of zen photography. It was rather dark inside the club where this event took place. I approached Jeannie and asked her if I could take her photo. She replied that she typically didn't pose for photos, but since I asked so nicely and I was the first one to ask her that night, she agreed. I knew I'd only have one chance. However, the lighting was so dark that I could barely see her through the viewfinder of my Pentax K1000. I just focused as best I could, and snapped this pic. Like the blindfolded zen archers, I managed to hit the target without actually seeing it.

Knickerbocker Hotel

Knickerbocker Hotel
Made by TooMuchFire
The Knickerbocker Hotel is steeped in Hollywood lore. Today, it's an apartment for senior citizens. But, back in the day, it housed many a celebrity. Some reported stories: Rudolph Valentino used to hang out at the bar. Harry Houdini's widow held a seance on the roof to summon his spirit (none came). Director D.W. Griffith died in the lobby after suffering a massive stroke. Frances Farmer was arrested here and dragged from her room. Marilyn Monroe honeymooned with Joe DiMaggio here. And Mr. Elvis Presley stayed at the hotel, as did Jerry Lee Lewis. 1714 N. Ivar Ave., Los Angeles CA.

Though they didn't believe it before, Amanda Palmer and Margaret Cho made sure that Katy Perry kissed a girl. (Full disclosure: not actually Katy Perry, that's Tora Hylands of the Danger Ensemble.) Music Box Theater, Hollywood, California. 16 December 2008. Hey! This photo hit Explore (#60/500.) My first time there. Cool! A short video of this part of the show can be found here. (May be NSFW.) OtterFreak's slightly safer version is here.

Well what can I say about my brother Bobby Jarzombek today on the kit ! He is done & dusted with 13 tracks & his performance will blow you all away on the CD. The 1st track he cut today was down & dirty ala 'Mudkicker' or 'Angel Down' , total METAL TO THE CORE. Now he is on the very last song .... formerly known as 'Awake' ....we may be changing the title on that. Sounding magical! Next up comes Nick Sterling on guitars ! Sydney Grey #3

Sydney Grey #3
Made by geoff cordner
Sydney Grey had just gotten her masters degree and was on a last run before retiring as one of the earlier-ish fetish models. She contacted me about doing a shoot when she was town, and that gave birth to Punkerotic back around 1999 or 2000 or so...The idea was a nostalgic (and highly idealized) look back at my own coming of age, sort of like Dazed & Confused but 5 years later, with more drugs, kinky sex, and in Hollywood.

The city of Los Angeles was on pins and needles last night when Boston came to town for game six of the NBA Finals. The Lakers came out on fire and forced the series to a game seven that will be played on Thursday night. The winner of game seven will be the NBA champions! This shot is a single RAW exposure taken from Mulholland drive. You can see Hollywood in the foreground and the Los Angeles skyline in the distance.
