from the Dan Flavin exhibit at the MCA from a few summers ago. Wasn't allowed to take photographs (might damage the light photons, or something), but still a few dozen managed to find their way onto my camera. All By Myself

All By Myself

The last couple days have been dark, gloomy and filled with low flying clouds. Lucky for me, these days are perfect opportunities to get pictures of all the great Chicago buildings with their heads in the clouds. If you can't tell from the image, I took this picture while at the standing at the base of the John Hancock building. decluttr

November 2nd, 2008 - Chicago, United States Not a typical image for this stream, but I was captivated by this view looking from the basement up to the roof through the centre of the spiral staircase in Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art. The building was designed by German architect Josef Paul Kleihues.

I took this shot on a crazy-busy Saturday night, so I didn't have a lot of time to play. I loved how the Hancock Building looms over the Chicago Avenue Pumping Station. The contrast of the old limestone with the newer skyscraper makes me happy. I ran Pioneer Woman's Heartland action on this.

one of the many beautiful water fountains i see on the way to work. with a macro lens, it doesn't seem that something this serene could be possible on the heavily trafficed magnificent mile in chicago. I APPRECIATE AWARDS, BUT I PREFER COMMENTS - OR ATLEAST COMMENTS WITH AWARDS.

Sunset view from Hancock Tower's 95th floor. Hancock tower is the 3rd tallest building in Chicago. To the right is Lake Michigan and to the left is the city of Chicago, divided by the infamous, Lake Shore drive. This view is of the North Side. See the view of the .

Aaron at MoCA Chicago

Aaron at MoCA Chicago
Made by Sam Felder
Aaron drove up to meet me while Julie and I were in Chicago for the long July 4th weekend. We spent the day at the Chris Ware exhibit at MoCA (a little disappointing) and at Chicago's comic shops (very impressive). Mostly it was just good to see Aaron.

Sears Tower as viewed from the John Hancock Observation Deck. Picture taken through the glass windows of the observation deck at sunset. This picture makes me homesick some 7 years later after I moved from Chicago to San Diego.

Chicago Avenue Pumping Station

Chicago Avenue Pumping Station

Built in 1869 this was one of the few structures to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. Recently the pumping station was remodeled into the Looking Glass Theatre

I've come to the conclusion that I will go see *anything* the LookingGlass folks put on, but this one is very well done. Great actors, inventive staging (as always for LG productions), and an engaging narrative.

Water Pumping Station

This, along with the water tower across the street, was one of the few buildings downtown to survive the Great Chicago Fire in the 1800's. Now it's right in the middle of the action on the Magnificent Mile.

A *huge* mural that proves...Chicago is the town with Everything. Kittens, tigers, Cubs, flying dolphins, busty women in evening gowns...Everything. Found on the wall of a food court off Wabash.

If you believe the stories on the Chicago Trolley Line Tour, this is one of three buildings to survive the Chicago Fire, but comments show otherwise.

The Water Tower and the nearby pumping station were the only two buildings in downtown Chicago that survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1781

Chicago. I thought pictures like this are possible only in LA, but I guess I must blame Julius Shulman for this miscomprehension.

West from John Hancock Center. This does not do justice to the town: photomerge shrinks the view by I guess 60 degrees.
