There are multiple challenges involved in photographing a place like Hillside Su. The combination of darkness and moving objects (lights, disco balls) is tricky because long exposures are a no-go if you want anything other than blurs. Reflections also come into play - about 90% of the walls in the hotel are covered in mirrors, so in order to keep this from being a self-portrait series, I had to clone myself out of many of the shots. There's also the issue of hotel guests, as you can see in this frame. People went about their business, pretty much unaware of what I was doing, and so I often got ghost people at the tail end or very beginning of exposures. Sometimes it was cool; other times I wanted to send everyone back to their rooms. 2009.282

The famous Hillside Su disco balls. They always look so small in photos, but I can assure you they are gigantic. Later on you'll see a reference photo that proves it. Incidentally, I think this may be the only digital photo that I have ever posted sooc. 2009.274

The entire hotel - walls, floors, furniture, everything - is white. All the lighting is red. Pretty much every available flat surface is covered in mirrors. It's quite spectacular to see. 2009.275
