Helsingborg is located in the southernmost part of Sweden, called Skåne, and has a population of 101,600. It is the seat of Helsingborg Municipality, which has 122,000 inhabitants. Helsingborg Municipality is the ninth largest Municipality in Sweden due to its relatively small areal size. Helsingborg is the city center of about 300,000 people in the region. This effectively makes Helsingborg the fourth largest city in Sweden.
- Helsingborg Castle (or what's left of it) overlooks the harbour, with archways over the steps leading down to the city center. Kärnan, the rectangular-plan tower from the 14th century at the top of the bluff, can be climbed, though the view of the harbour isn't appreciably better than from ground level, and the rest of the city isn't particularly notable.
- Sofiero Castle is a 19th century ocean-side royal castle and gardens located 5 km from the city center. The gardens display local and foreign plants. It's famous for its plantations of Rhododendron, blossoming in early summer. The castle has a restaurant and a modern art gallery. Take bus 219 towards Höganäs.
- Fredriksdal is an ambitious open-air museum with gardens, farm animals, old houses, museums and a theater. To get there, you take bus 1 or 7, both northbound.
- Sancta Maria kyrka - the city's church, built in the 14th century
- RÃ¥dhuset (Town Hall) - in the New Gothic style

Mariakyrkan i Helsingborg är stadens äldsta kyrka och uppfördes på 1100-talet i romansk stil. På 1400-talet ersattes denna av en treskeppig gotisk tegelkyrka, men man har använt sandstensblock från den äldre kyrkan i sockeln till koromgången och västpartiet. Mariakyrkan är en s k pseudo-basilika då den har ett förhöjt mittskepp, som dock inte höjer sig så högt över sidoskeppen att det får plats fönster mellan taken. Trappgaveltornet tillkom på 1500-talet. På 1800-talet ersattes blytaket med koppartak. 1843 rev man kyrkans vapenhus i söder och sakristian i norr när man restaurerade kyrkan efter ritningar av Carl Georg Brunius. Sakristian återuppfördes dock 1953 efter ritningar av Gustaf W Widmark, med den äldre sakristian som förebild.

I fear it is a loss. kenneth frampton in 'studies in tectonic culture' convincingly tied utzon's work to the ideas of jensen-klint and thus to the gothicism of helsingør and helsingborg where he, utzon, began his career.
