Heaton Park, Manchester - bowling

'Heaton Park's impressive bowling facility was created for the Commonwealth Games in 2002. Its four championship standard greens and impressive pavilion are home to the park's two Bowling Clubs. Bury Croquet Club also use a green for games and tournaments.' So says the published information. But these are not the traditional crown greens of the North, they are flat greens! This is Bury Old Road, Prestwich. Behind the old school is Heaton Park and between the new building and the school is a local gate to the park. Before this silo-like structure was built there was an interesting old house on that site which, I believe, had at one time been given to the people of Prestwich as a reading-room/library. Perhaps someone will tell us more about the old house?
