By now you have probably heard that I broke my leg... and I spent a week in the hospital... Start at the beginning... I got off work last Friday evening around 12:30 am... that was the night that Winnipeg got a mild snowstorm on top of hot pavement and caused ice everywhere! I walked about 3 steps out of the office door and slipped down... it was a smooth fall... nothing rough... I started getting up, and my right foot was pointing 90 degrees from where it should have been... then it hurt... called 911 and I spent the night at the Emergency Room of the Health Sciences Centre - it was initially casted into place - just to prevent the bones from ripping the tissue... On Tuesday, I wenty in for surgery - they put a titanium rod alongside the Tibia (larger of the two bones) and screwed it in place. They put a small plate on the fibula and screwed it in place... I am now 4-6 weeks with NO weight on my foot... and off work... at that point they will re-assess it and if it looks well enough I will get a walking cast and start physio... On Wednesday, they put a fiberglass cast on to hold it still and to replace my ankle brace that I normally have on for my drop foot... I am sick of hospital food... and of many patients whining and griping... I am also sick of the few staff that were quite rude and short tempered (I filed a complaint against one person who bitched at me for asking for help getting covered 3 hours after surgery).... overall the stay wasn't that bad and there were a ton of staff that were enjoyable to be around! Thanks to the fact that one of the x-ray techs loves scrapbooking, I got photos the other night when I went down... this is a photo of the digital image on the computer

I slipped on a patch of ice that was freshly covered with snow. Now my lower leg is broken is several places - both the tibia and fibula are fractured... . Ow... Several days in the hospital... several weeks off work.... Thanks Brent for posting this while I was in the hospital!

Orange Is Done!

It is done and just needs to harden! This cast is shorter at both ends - my toes are clearly visible, and the top is about 3 inches lower than it was!
