Digital Unpredictability
Made by ^Tom
Digital photography has its unpredictable moments. On a recent visit to the Hayward Gallery I was attracted by Rachel Whiteread's installation 'Place (Village)'. I wanted to take away a memory, so I pointed my camera. Just as I was about to squeeze the button a voice came out of the darkness: No photography!. This picture is the chance result, a unpredicted combination of input from me and input from the gallery attendant, a chaotic vector of differing intentions. Whiteread's piece is a carefully arranged collection of doll's houses stage-lit from the inside, it 'makes a point about the smallness and fragility of the spaces we actually live in, worry about, decorate . . . all those things that are part of life'. Perhaps in its capricious way my picture captures something of that 'smallness and fragility' so I'm going tag it serendipity as well as unpredictable.

The end of this video is funny, that face of fear is because I was getting a little closer to the edge than I desired.
