The Hassan II Mosque (Arabic: مسجد الحسن الثاني‎), located in Casablanca is the largest mosque in Morocco and the third largest mosque in the world after the Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque) of Mecca and the Al-Masjid al-Nabawi (Prophet's Mosque) in Medina. Designed by the French architect Michel Pinseau and built by Bouygues.[1] It stands on a promontory looking out to the Atlantic, which can be seen through a gigantic glass floor with room for 25,000 worshippers. A further 80,000 can be accommodated in the mosque's adjoining grounds for a total of 105,000 worshippers present at any given time at the Hassan II mosque. Its minaret is the world's tallest at 210 m

A lone man stands under the archway of the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco. With the tallest minaret in the world (210m), and the second largest mosque overall.... the Hassan II Mosque could best be described as awe inspiring. Even with my widest lens, I had to take a very big step back to get the whole mosque. Really a nice place and a different feel from the hussle and bussle of Casablanca...

Here's where I admit something: the mosque was too much for me. Too large, too ... everything. It seemed entirely ostentatious given that it backs up onto an industrial area, that there are a lot of poor people in Morocco, that illiteracy is still a problem ... I couldn't help thinking that maybe the money could have been better spent on other projects. There, I said it.

We were allowed to walk around one of the Hammams beneath the Hassan II mosque. There are two, one for me and this one for ladies. Apparently they've never been used in this location. A layer of dust upon the otherwise clear water suggested the same.
