This huge rainbow flag stands at the intersection of Castro Street and Market Street, in a spot known as Harvey Milk Plaza. It is named in memory of San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk, the first openly gay person elected to office in the US. It denotes the heart of the Castro district, San Francisco's gay and lesbian neighbourhood.
