261/365: Investiture of New Baron and Baroness of The South Downs

The weekend after the Coronation of Maximillian and Lethrenn was the Investiture of the new Baron and Baroness of the South Downs, Haji and Jadi. I've got a lot of pictures from this Court and from the evening, but this picture struck me as the ideal image for the day's 365, the moment of the King officially pronouncing the kneeling couple as the new people in charge of the Society for Creative Anachronism group in Atlanta, Georgia. The lady wearing the white veil now has a rather complicated title. She has Mistress due to being a Laurel (award for arts and sciences). She has Baroness as a Court Baroness (award for lots of good stuff done for the SCA and the Kingdom). She now has ANOTHER Baroness as a Landed Baroness (running a Barony-sized geographical group). She still says I should just call her Jadi. Not stuck-up at all, and neither is her husband :) The Society for Creative Anachronism, Kingdom of Meridies. Camp Daniel Morgan at Hard Labor Creek has pretty nice cabins. There's the usual problem of squeaky uncomfortable bunk beds that have mattresses covered in plastic, but oh well. It's hard to beat $25 for two nights' lodging and meals from Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast (the SCA is a bargain when it comes to accomodations, and expensive for clothing and equipment!) This is the cabin we stayed in this weekend. I have no idea why the site map designates it as Cabin 3, Quiet Side when the number on the front is a 2. Sunday morning at Red Tower, cleanup time. And we ran out of coffee! Awk! Here's a really cool-looking papier-mache elephant that had been made for the purpose of bearing a fancy dessert into the Feast hall on his back. He looks kind of disillusioned the morning after.
