Heading towards the Stephansdom (St. Stephen's) Cathedral. The two Roman Towers mark its main entrance. The much taller south tower (hochturm), nicknamed Steffl, or Little Stephan, is shrouded at right, under restoration. A church has stood here since 1137. The Haas Haus' gleaming and lopsided facade is at left.

Almost 250,000 tiles form the design on the Stephansdom roof; rebuilt following the war. The original collapsed after a fire ignited by windborne embers, resulting from civilian plundering of nearby shops in the last days of World War II.
