The most dangerous Place

There was a time when this was considered the most likely place that you'd get murdered in Vancouver. That time was not one hundred years ago in some wild west frenzy - it was last year. It's also the block on which I work. Since I have a penchant for working late and smoking, most nights you will find me sitting in this, the most likely place to get murdered in Vancouver, relaxed as all hell, wondering exactly how a newspaper came up with that little gem of reporting. I guess it all stems from the fact that there was a nightclub kind of below and to the right of where this photo was taken and over the past few years there have been a few shootings. Two shootings in five years to be exact. Despite the clear evidence of a murderous crime wave that's overwhelming the heart of the business district, people seem fairly calm about it. A few years ago, every night for nearly two months, when I would go out for a cigarette, I would look over at the intersection that you can see in the photo and there would be a burning police car upside-down in the middle of the road. It's the intersection where they filmed the final battle in The Fantastic Four. That intersection gets to be New York on a fairly regular basis and I noticed that it has become New York again over the past week with fake subway entrances and banners on light-posts and New York taxis parked up and down the road. The taxis were especially ironic considering that I was trying to hail a cab from the office at ten on Friday night and the only cabs around were nothing more than movie props.
