Nikolai Frederik Severin Grundtvig (1783-1872) was a Danish vicar, politician, philosopher, teacher, historian and poet. Built from 1918 to 1940 as a memorial church for Grundtvig. The Architect P.V.Jensen Klint started the construction, which was completed by his son Kaare Klint, who has designed much of the interior decoration and a grandson who designed the illumination. Exclusively built in handmade bricks, and situated on one of the highest points above sea level in Copenhagen it is a monumental building resembling a cathedral although it functions as an ordinary parish church.
